Thread regarding Fidelity National Information Services Inc. layoffs

Don't get comfortable

You might think your group is safe. You might have been told the cuts are done. Don't believe it. Stay prepared. Getting blindsided is way worse than expecting it and being wrong.

To try and redirect this conversation towards productivity I would say this.

There is a fundamental lack of visibility into these processes at an extremely high level. For example your VP may have no Advanced information on what's coming down for some of these RIFs. The big ones generally are planned out but often times direct managers are not involved in the decision due to the massive size and sensitivity (I'm assuming)

If a manager speaks with a high degree of confidence that nothing will happen, I would be skeptical. Any good manager who's been at FIS for more than a year will know to say that anything is possible even if the landscape they're looking at looks like it'll be unlikely to cause a RIF.

Be prepared for life changes to happen, that's the new normal around here.

@mx it's so creepy when this happens. It used to be the courtesy of the quick team huddle with an announcement that preserves the privacy of the individual. For a time, there were those suddenly listed big meetings, if you were scheduled for the earlier meeting, that was the impact group. The later group was the group that was notified. Now, it's all covert to avoid the questions. It's worse for the morale; it foments distrust. It becomes a big mystery to ferret out hence the popularity of this site. It's a place for accurate information sharing, the malignant narcissistic trolls are just a bonus. Knowing the C suite reads here is satisfying. DO BETTER! WE CAN SEE YOU!

I've seen 4 more go in the last week. Likely let go silently, instead of a large layoff. Feels never-ending.

Have read some great lists with preparatory items to consider, add these: along with eye, dental, medical appointments/procedures (time to schedule those mammograms/colonoscopies) while still covered, be sure to fill any 90 maintenance prescriptions. Explain to your healthcare provider, they may be willing to write 180 day prescriptions under the circumstances. Review and take advantage of EAP benefits now.

@a6 that is easy to say if you have benefits through a spouse or partner. If you have a spouse or family member with chronic illness or other medical issue currently being addressed, it's a real problem. Financial obligations have to be met. Even with severance and unemployment, at some point an income has to be made. It's not testeria to worry about it.

Who is the d-mbest poster on the internet?

  • Don't believe it.
  • Stay prepared.
  • Getting blindsided is way worse than expecting it and being wrong.

What an insightful post people haven't understood for the past 3 years. How stupid did you need to be to post this? Are you feeling ok at least? Are you?

FIS is a shithole. "Client First" "Follow the Sun" Eat a Di-k Sandwich". It will never change until the board wakes up. Everything between the workers and the board is just the cheap seats full of people getting paid for not ding a job. Worthless company.

@OP one should never be to comfortable in their job. To upper management you are just a number. The call comes from the top and trickles down to the managers and they have to pick someone. Try not to take it personally but always be prepared. Have a savings to get you thru 3-6months, have your resume up to date, you should also be casually looking while you're still employed. Get your contacts up to date, get the People Office contacts ready, know who to contact for unemployment benefits (yes you are entitled to them if you get a severance). Clean up your work laptop of any personal items and be prepared so when/if you get the email telling you your services are no longer needed you just close your machine and wait for the return box to send your laptop back.

What is this? It’s just constant drama and pressure. If we get fired, we get fired; it’s not like a job is the only thing in life
