Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Clinton site fate?

A few months ago there were all types of rumors of the Clinton site closing. Any further rumors/truth concerning this? There are only like.. 100 cars in the parking lot on a “full” day.

I’m sure I’ll get the typical response about how the Clinton site is useless, so before anyone gets too wild with their rant, I will just mention that yes, I most likely agree with your arrogant comments and won’t feel the need to get defensive.

@mlt+1eeoqaD1…right on point, Same thing happened in 1998 In PRD in Linden. Shut down and moved to Abingdon , d-mbest move ever, was all political. Total waste of money, small staff , vehicles, and test engines moved, then in 2000, The merger and all back to Paulsboro. Then NJRSC disaster move to Clinton, who’s making these decisions? The right decision was to stay in Linden. There is something very suspicious about the Company’s posture on the ILEU contract , seems to me the same scenario is playing out, ( Union Labor) , high cost location Clinton is in the crosshairs there is a plan. Much cheaper options exist. No new technology coming out of this site in a long while, and talent leaving in large numbers. Read between the lies…

@mlt+1eeoqaD1 - just FYI, back in the mid-90's, Exxon green lit the building of a brand new marine engine test facility at its UK Research Center in Abingdon. The overall cost was somewhere in the region of $50M (based on the exchange rate at the time). When the facility was finally opened in early1999, the Lab Manager told all of the Abingdon staff that this showed the corporation's commitment to the site's value and continued operation. By mid-2000, it was all closed down and mothballed. By the end 2005, everything of value had been ripped out and they began bulldozing the site.

The moral of this story is that no amount of money and investment is too much for the corporation to throw away. They are only concerned about potential law suits and have a department of attorneys working full-time to avoid them. EM could easily close down Clinton, significantly reduce the amount of R&D and move the selected staff to Houston in support of those "high value" (or "high visibility") projects. The remaining staff could be relocated to less desirable sites or simply be made redundant, with the lack of EMRE work required.

@Blue collar witness

I’m not an attorney or expert on labor law, but I believe the court decision you’re referring to is based on a contract with the company which isn’t in effect because the represented employees refused the company’s offer

Why are all those contractors still on site? The court spoke on this , Temporary is not 5+ years back to the hall! There a plan 2022 will be the reveal.

Watch for the new reorg. The NJ sites could be consolidated to Texas. Exxon still wants to cut costs in the next few years. The fact that NJ sites have unions is also a negative. If fact watch all research they would like to outsource to lower cost third party labs and countries.

But does Guv Abbottoir even answer Durwood's calls anymore down Tejas way?
I don't think so.
He's got bigger things to do.

@pag+1eeoqaD1: not sure about PA, but when I transferred from TX to NJ, my property tax went up 50% for the same price house. Houston traffic is a bi--h if you live far from the site, but no worse than dealing with the shitshow they call I-78. Crime is worse in HTX. Each area has its positives and negatives, just gotta decide what’s important for you.

You pay for the lack of state income tax with property tax rates that are borderline criminal.

Pi-s and moan all you want about TX, but pull up your last pay statement and look at states taxes paid YTD and add that to your take home pay. Nifty little raise for most of us.

The fact that the Technology Capabilities study results forum keeps getting pushed back along with this heavily rumored technology reorganization next year definitely makes you wonder. I’ve personally asked VIjay and DT on several occasions about the fate of this site and every time they’ve said there is absolutely no plans of closing Clinton. Now obviously they wouldn’t come out and say that even if there was but their tone while saying it seemed fairly genuine. It’s ashame Paulsboro didn’t go right to Houston first because I would’ve gone. Now I have a family and I’m not going to TX. So basically I just have to hope this place survives.

In hindsight, the offer the company made to ILEU back in 2018 looks fairly generous. I can’t recall the % per year off the top of my head, but the increases were on par or more than what a lot of employees received with our most recent salary treatment, not to mention the $5k bonus. The ILEU leadership refused to present the offer to its members. So the fact that the wage employees in Annandale have ‘t gotten a raise is their own f—king fault.

The trajectory for Annandale is not looking positive. Dallas still has its foot on the gas for reduced OPEX and Capital spending, and reducing high cost locations, which is Annandale ,despite $70.00 oil and rightly so. The tax write off Research is soon evaporating which will out additional pressure on this facility. I expect this work can be completed with less cost downsizing to Baytown or BTC or a mix of both, and outsourcing some of the current work. Don’t let the Paulsboro (disaster) move lull you into a false sense of security, in the big picture it’s peanuts. We have lost lots of talented MTS and PHD’s over the last 18 months, and the fake layoffs have effected good loyal employees. The damage created by management to the Wage employees is sinful no raise or contact for over three years with 6% inflation. I know you think they are overpaid salary survey BS. Living in NJ isn’t cheap Good luck to all , Merry Christmas

There are serious indications about a Technology reorg in 2nd quarter that will affect the R&D organization. I expect this will affect some management positions mostly. I do not believe that this would affect the site overall.
But indeed, it is a sad sight, empty as it is inside out.

I would be surprised if Clinton shutdown. I know at least one person transferring there this month from Spring.

They spent a lot of money relocating equipment and people from Paulsboro. Not sure the site has much residual value and relocating anyone you want to retain is expensive. I suspect many Clintonites are working from home.

Perhaps with the Technical Organization changes in 2022 there will be some changes or reductions.
