Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Strike While the Iron's Hot

When - and it's clearly only a question of when - the federal government announces a shutdown of non essential businesses, we need to strike en masse. The first full day of national quarantine is when we must act.

Strike for PPE (we're helping the infected yet are provided with NONE). Strike for benefits. Strike for wage increased and steady schedules.

Strike while we have more leverage than we likely ever will again. If it's a legitimate strike we cannot be retaliated against. And if they do anyway we will file against them and we will win, and what's more we'll be at less risk of contracting the virus throughout.

No more lives on the line for the sake of their profits alone. They say they have an open door policy, but the doors is locked and they're hiding inside. Let's bust the door down.

Striking does not require a union, that's absurd. It requires cooperation. If your issue with unions is corruption because of a hierarchical structure then I'm with you, but the answer is better unions, not an open door policy.

Lowe's has an open door policy - it's called a trapdoor, and they will set it off the moment you have an issue that comes from them.

Correction: incubation period is between 2 and 14 days. Apologies for the error.

I have a compromised amune system so I am being careful. And will stay home if i dont feel well

I feel sorry for you having to work here during this time especially. But you are woefully misinformed.

The virus has an incubation period between 2 and 24 days. That means by the time you feel sick, you could have already been sick for two weeks! Not to mention that even after that incubation period, about 19-20% of people who have the virus have absolutely zero symptoms. Look up Typhoid Mary for a look at how disastrous that can be - and then realize that combing that incubation period and those asymptomatic cases gives you 40-50% of the people who can spread this disease at any one time have zero symptoms.

This is 1918, 1929, 9/11 and 2008 all rolled into one. And it had barely even begun. Unless remdesivir or another already extant d–g comes through as a hail Mary we are truly boned in ways few have really begun to comprehend. Things are never going back to the way they were. The least we can do is try to get some concessions on the part of the labor who created 100% of the company's profits.

In a good economy our jobs are as disposable as ever. Right now though, they need us. And ain't nobody else applying to work in this dump during a pandemic. If we quit or strike they're SOL and need to meet us at the table less they want to join those other companies shutting down unable to pay their employees.

They can afford stock buybacks to boost Bill Ackman's ego, they can afford PPE and benefits improvements. It's not hard.

lol.....you actually have as little leverage as ever before. millions upon millions of americans have and will be losing their jobs ......lowes is one of the few places considered essential and staying open. you strike...theyll let you go and replace you with any number of people in your area that now have massive job insecurity.

you really think most mall stores, kohls, etc. etc. can afford to shut their doors like this?!?! all those mom and pop local businesses letting go of all their staff because they had to close but still have to pay rent, insurances etc.

in an economic downturn of this nature the laborer loses all power. in a strong robust economy where quality workers cannot be found and employers have to start competing for them...thats when you strike.

Calm down people! You don't want to work at Lowe's for whatever reason leave or call in sick. No one is begging you to stay. I have worked at Lowe's for 15 years in a store. I don't agree with some of the decisions over the last year, but right now I understand why we are open. I don't understand some of the folks that are shopping right now with kids in tow. They closed schools so they would lower exposure but parents are bringing there kids in all day long. Girl scouts are selling cookies behind the registers. If you don't feel well stay home. Keep as much personal space as you can. But don't shut the store down I need my pay check. I am over 60 , I have a compromised amune system so I am being careful. And will stay home if i dont feel well. I Don't see how bills will get paid if not working. Think about if everything gets shut down, thats when the s××t will hit the fan. People will need food, medicine, diapers, water heaters, batteries, appliances, gas and yes toilet paper☺ people just have to use some common sense and considerstion right now.
