Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

Layoffs Confirmed Effective 2/1

A couple organizations today got all-hands emails announcing reorganizations and resulting layoffs. Particularly, Digital Product Management under CM is being reorganized.

A layer of leadership, I believe an M4 and a VP, are being laid off. In addition, it sounds like each product team is losing at least 2 people as part of an org chart consolidation in the Planning Solutions area. A lot of the people laid off seem like newer people and people with domain knowledge were kept.

Honestly, I'm glad someone noticed how bloated and overstaffed DPM is and that people are being put in better places, including if it's outside the company.

"Was involved in this round of layoffs. Was laid off 1/17 was T2/T/3. Was told it was expense management and was not given the option of looking for a new internal opportunity."

Then you weren't laid off, you were fired. Every "workforce reduction" employee is provided with the opportunity for an internal role. It's literally in the "workforce reduction" contract - which is provided to all employees part of the "program". Ask me how I know. I might actually have the contract on-hand...if you really want specifics.

While NM has MANY MANY MANY MANY faults - this post is BS. I literally know someone who was "walked out of the office" because they were told they needed to "quit" in order to qualify for severance. He still had the opportunity to apply internally. Another had 8 days before their termination date - and was still provided resources to apply internally to stay.

Stop lying. They have a ton of problems - but you lying is just stupid.

how does severance work for those being laid off in terms of prorated AIP?

Do they get their full bonus from the year prior (assuming they worked the full year) AND a prorated amount for 2024, or do they lose out on 2023 entirely?

@mgk+1qFDrAZX Yeah, they chose to keep the announcements of the lower people being let go to the teams they were a part of as opposed to the whole department.

There is a mention of a VP (AH) and an M4 but there’s no mention of other names or the number of people impacted.
