Genuine question

If you are not applying for jobs right now, why?

I’ve earned but haven’t taken my sabbatical yet. I’ll either get laid off and paid out for it, take a break over the holidays then start searching… or still have a job and take it later. I mostly enjoy my job and most Schwabbies, but I’m not happy about the direction culture and EC are moving. If I’m still here in 2024 I’ll re-evaluate after the dust settles.

If I get severance I can live off of it for a while while supporting my loved one with cancer. This whole time I've been racking my brain whether to just quit or hold out for severance. I need it to come sooner, so I can have my answer

I’ve taken a break the last month from applying to jobs because the rejection AND the stress about upcoming layoffs was impacting my mental health. Looking to get back at it soon.

A lot of folks have probably been out of the job market for awhile. And everyone getting messages from recruiters on LinkedIn thinks it just comes with an offer… but they forget about interviews and that recruiter copy/pasted that exact same message to 50 other candidates with the exact same background…

I've been laid off before and it's only lead to a better job in the end. If I get laid off this time I'm going to have some free time to upskill and probably even double or triple my current salary. Then again I might not be let go cuz I'd say my pay is below average for my current position. Also not everyone is going to end up getting a better job. You gotta want it, it's not easy out there

Everyone’s situation is different. I applied for a few remote jobs when the RTO plan was announced. A few weeks later they announced my office is closing and we’d go fully remote so I stopped searching at that point. I’ve got a healthy savings so if I end up getting laid off I’ll probably take a few months off before I start working again. I enjoy my job and hope I get to keep it but if I get laid off, I’m looking forward to a little time off. I’ve worked full time for the past 10 years so this would be my first break longer than a week since I graduated college.

I have been dawg. It’s not easy out there.

And before we get flooded with the folks saying “no it’s not I got tons of offers and I didn’t even apply because I’m gods gift to the world!” Realize you’re the exception not the rule

Schwabs been under paying me since I joined and I’ve seen more people get higher positions ahead of me because they’ve been here longer than my 3.5 year tenure. The idea that years=skill is why we have so many awful middle managers. That’s only gonna get worse when promotions stall out next year to save money

I work for money. That is why I have a job

To me it’s a win-win situation. I either walk away with close to 6 months severance or I keep my job. Would be nice to get laid off. Travel some. Skill up. Then see if I can snag another job during that period and essentially get double pay.

For me personally, getting another job now seems more of a risk than just waiting and seeing.

If I really got termed I'd take the severance and kick it. I'm sitting on an 8-figure stash so I don't really need to work any more I guess?

I like my job and the people I work with and think that Schwab will be better ran next year.

Because 95% of Schwab employees will still have jobs when this is all said and done. The odds are in our favor.

Last year I started my own business in digital marketing. I am praying that I do get laid off. I’m not applying for jobs because I refuse to work for anyone else. Tired of these corporations treating people as a puppet. I earn enough on my digital marketing business to replace the 9-5. I’m thankful that I had made the right decision in starting my own business. The internet has opened those opportunities but people are too programmed in believing the 9-5 lifestyle is the only way.

Let’s see.

A messed up RTO, too little office space and messed up layoff mean I have a job or will get over three months severance by year end when we might have to be in an office three days a week.

Laid off and I get a new job early next year after enjoying a paid Christmas or I keep going and seize opportunities from the layoffs. They don’t happen and I’m out then.

Who would walk from months of free money
