There are a lot of ex BP X's around. I was devastated by a BP layoff in my 8th year (1992), and that was over 25 years ago and things haven't changed. While I managed to have a pretty successful 28 year career in the oil & gas industry (with another 5 years as a geo in environmental), it is a hard on people to go through a career with the severe ups-and-downs. You get complacent in the good times (buying too big of a house and new car), and then start your kids in college when the bottom drops out. Knowing what I went through, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone now who has a family.
I agree 100% with @VTbncJp-Tuqo .
