Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

BP = bring people down including their retiree savings. Now, they noticed that the premiums offered are a catch 22; paying for a premium not at all competitive. What can you expect from BP cheaters!

But if your choices are limited and mostly oil & gas, then consider the cost of joining an organization that will bring you down. That's what BP stands for = bring people down!

After going through several BP layoff rounds (and surviving) I've noticed some folks simply handle stress better than others. It may be down to their personality, 'grit', self confidence or past experiences ... but they seem to roll with the punches. Layoffs are water off a duck to them. BP wants to lay me off? BFD..I'll take a well deserved break then find a more interesting job (didn't really care for the stuffy British PC corporate culture anyway!).

Other folks (like myself) would internalize the stress and, in some cases, take it home to the family. This is not good, but fortunately you learn to get better at dealing with this over time.

I wouldn't steer someone away from BP because they have a family...I would steer them away if they expected stability/job security and wouldn't handle major change/disruption well.

Looking for stability in the oil industry is like trying to find Jesus in wh--ehouse. He ain't there people!

Of the oil and gas companies, BP is the biggest cheater to its employees. It promises many retiree benefits that people will never get and if they are an inch close to get them, its compliant management will drum up a bunch of lies to ensure those benefits are not granted. BP labor lawyers are the most unethical and biased creatures you will ever cross path. Literally all those labor lawyers from Chicago to Houston combined are not worth a penny all together. That is why they are forever stuck at BP with their rear glue to the chair. In over 20 years, we have never seen any BP labor lawyer employed by the competition. Other employers know better by keeping them at BP the plague is contained.

BP had a culture to run people's credential to the ground. Running is not a strategy to leave them fast enough...do summersaults if that's what it takes to leave now. #bademployer

Oil is cyclical. If you want stability, the petroleum industry isn't it.
