Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Bad time to have accepted an offer?

If one accepted a job offer several days ago before this all came about and have not started yet, as a US-based, SWE, Should we assume there is going to be a hiring freeze now? Sounds like Cisco has a history of continuing to bring people on despite a large amount of layoffs. This does feel different though.

My advice, take the offer. When I left there was expectation that my team would be hit badly in the next round of LRs (we were a global overlay team). I debated whether to hang on and get the LR payment but run the risk of losing out on the job offer.

In the end I decided to jump anyway. My old team is still in Cisco but they are all pretty miserable.

I know I made the right decision.

Cisco is always cycling out B talent and top grading with new talent.

The most stupid thing I have heard.

It's for real. Recruiter reached out to me in December. It is security based.

We are able to hire with VP approval. We were just able to get approval for a G11 back fill last week and start interviews this week.

If this is real, then your hiring req must be fairly important in an “high-growth” area.

BU that I’m in has been on a de-facto hiring freeze for quite a while.
