I'd not see a way for morale and loyalty that previously existed to ever return. They always talk about reputation and how quickly it can be destroyed in the business ethics training. Clearly that is a true principle.

@uzo There are douchebags of every age, color, and creed at Exxon. Try to be a little more inclusive.
The "why" is that C-Suite management is not in it for the long haul. They're in it for short terms stock gains that they can cash in during their tenure. Leave the ticking bo-b for the next guys. It's the EM way.
C-Suite management not stupid or greedy. They are carving the Company down to bare bones from fat,d-mb and happy. The real question is, "why?". There is something in the offing

Who cares about your morale? You get paid to do the job and you do it as long as you’re asked to. You leave if you don’t want to and they can fire you if they want to. That’s all. Rest of the stuff is all snowflaky!
Morale is not a metric that we care about anymore. It’s just short term cost but it will come with a price aka Bowing and GE. Our integrity and reliability will drop in the next few years.
