The best way to get promoted is to have a competent team. You can then be hands off and spend all of your time managing upward. Basically don’t do your job and spend all of your time promoting yourself to your superiors. I’ve seen it work time and time again.

Best and only way is to be a HIPO and live every year and a half remaining clueless the entire time to what your team does and what you should be doing but it is all ok because your next promotion will be here before long
Bend the knees!
Wear tight fitting dresses and bend over frequently.
@lng Or they play it smart and carve out a little space for themselves to do their own thing.
I’ve been in this situation, and when the manager got huffy, I just stopped covering for him and doing his delegated tasks. Changed his tune real quick. All of a sudden he was cool with WFH and I could meet customers virtually instead of traveling.
Note: this only works if you’re an expert with a niche skill and your manager is a mo--nic bootlicker, which is more than likely.
Sups are politicians say what you want hear. While they favor certain people not due to merit but outside friends , past work experiences while being friends and pds manipulation. Those fast track guys you see are pet projects. Or low performers that they can turn into hi pos for pds moments. I’m sure there are other examples but if you’re a person of integrity , need things to make sense with accountability from super down, this is not the place for you. Me. I’m too far in. Counting the months down.
Yeah but the team will become aware of the use and you will have to pip some of them. I know of one group that lost five employees. They left because they did not like the workplace and workload for the pay. Remember you don't make the big money at first. All the competent workers have left only the dregs are left. So that is where we are at. Only the a kissers that do not do any real work or add value are left.
Sums it up nicely. Powerpoint engineering.
