Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Has anyone in Austin heard anything about relocation assistance

Just wondering if they will be helping with the cost of moving to DFW when they close the campus in 2026.

Denver is where the IaaS team is located. They should be worried.

You fools need to quit it already. Austin is safe. They couldn't close Austin or Denver if they wanted to.

How bout we keep the focus on the rumors about them closing the Austin campus. Some of us are really worried. I have been keeping my eyes out for other financial services jobs in Austin and even had some interviews but the salaries are not anywhere near what I make and thats not all that much. I would have to move to Dallas to come close to replacing my Schwab salary and I'm not in a position to do that.

They do know, I know that from experience. I was among those let go 10/30/2023. I was bitter, hurt and felt betrayed so I posted something here I shouldn've. Next thing I knew I got a letter from some attorney in the HR Department telling they wouldn't be paying me the severance settlement amount because I disparaged the company online and that violated my agreement. Looking back I know see what a generous company Schwab is and how well they take of their people even after they are no longer employed there. I acted on my emotion and I was wrong. What hurts even worse than losing 6 months of pay is knowing that I'm probably ineligible for rehire and will never get the chance to be a schwoomerang.

Please don't make the mistake I made.

For those saying Schwab can't track IP addresses here you are wrong. They need only make a comment or a trap post and embed some html code into it that will be invisible to you. They will then be able to track your IP address and if you've ever interacted with Schwab through a personal device such as when you log into your brokerage account or Workplace retirement account, they will be able to cross reference it.

False. Input and text fields do not accept code, and even if the code is typed into the input / text field, after pressing submit, the server will translate the code into harmless text characters. In addition, assuming the code could survive the submission process, JavaScript code would be needed, not HTML code, and there's no way JavaScript code would make it through submission process, nor be able to impact thelayoff.com DOM. Once again, code cannot be transferred through submission of posts or comments (by Schwab or any employees/ex-employees) to thelayoff.com, especially to track user's IP addresses.

I'm pretty sure they'd have to file some sort of notice with the state of Texas if they were planning to sell the campus and it would have definitely been reported in the Statesman.

Dean of Satelite Campus Acquisitions at Baylor U. here, I can confirm that Baylor has no plans to open a commuter campus in Austin. I will also be reporting to Schwab Corporate Real Estate the IP addresses of those who are suggesting we are so you can be identified and held accountable.

Even if you are who you say you are (I bet you are Schwab staff though), the only way you will be able to track the respective employee(s) is if they are using the Schwab intranet to access thelayoff.com. Otherwise, if folks are using their personal laptops/devices, you will not be able to access any IP addresses visiting thelayoff.com whatsoever. Only thelayoff.com has access to that info if they choose to track it. I do full stack web development for a living, and thank goodness Schwab is just a blip in my past.

I don’t understand why people think it’s funny to pretend to be a person in authority who will report posts on this site, it’s never funny. And I don’t think anyone actually believes it.

I don't know if that last guy is really a Baylor dean or not but I doubt Baylor would be buying the Austin campus. There's some classrooms in the amenities center but the other buildings are all cubicles offices and conference rooms not ideal for a lecture hall. I think LPL which I've heard mentioned before is more likely.

Baylor University is the buyer they're going to open a commuter campus in Austin.

Thanks for not leaving your fellow Schwab employees in the dark, this is helpful to know.

@jfcd+1vHaIe51 - "Apparently they already have a buyer but no one will break the NDA and say anything which is strange because they are willing to talk about other things. "

I dont know who your talking to but plenty of people are talking and they are all saying Baylor University is the buyer they're going to open a commuter campus in Austin.

Lying on the Internet is fun and all but usually I draw the line a few ticks before ominously and empty threatening people's jobs. To whoever here that needs a reminder - don't browse this site on company wifi and they can't track your IP ;)

MD here. There is zero truth to these claims about closing the Austin office. To those spreading rumors, your IP addresses are being tracked and we will be able to identify you and we will hold you accountable.

I'd get a vasectomy and a couple of side hustles.

Can anyone confirm for real whether there is any truth to them closing Austin? I've seen discussions about it here and there not just in this posting and it has me really freaked out. I took my job during the pandemic and was working remotely from my home in Oregon then moved my family to Austin when they started talking about RTO. Not long after Rick and Walt said there was gonna be a layoff and I spent months in te---r. I fortunately made it through but now I have a mortgage that is under water, a wife and two kids with another on the way and there aten't a whole lotta other employment prospects in Austin and few remoye opportinities. Someone please assure me these rumors are false

So this is what I have heard and none of it is final and all of it is subject to change. The campus is going to close in mid to late 2026. Apparently they already have a buyer but no one will break the NDA and say anything which is strange because they are willing to talk about other things. Certain people under managing director level will be kept on and work remotey for probably 12-18 months. Some directors and managing directors will be given the opportunity to relocate to Westlake but the majority will not. Relocation will be provided only for managing directors.

MD here. assure you that no one at the Sr. Manager level or lower will be offered the opportunity to relocate. Managing Directors and a handful of Directors will be given the opportunity. Only MDs will get relocation and it will definitely not be all expenses paid and Schwab is absolutely not going to buy anyone's house and put them in corporate housing.

I am sure $5,000 is just for your incidental expenses. They will pay for the movers and I think if they are relocating your position more than 50 miles away they have to buy your house at market value and put you in corporate housing until you close on a new one .

5k to uproot my life and move to Westlake? They need to do better than that if they expect retain anyone and trust me, the place will collapse if they don't retain my team. There are hundreds of companies out there that will pay you double your Schwab salary, let you work 100% remote, give you more vacation time and fully pay your health insurance. Nobody has to stay at schwab. They need us more than we need them.

My manager said she exected about $5,000 but to half that for taxes. So close to nothing.UnlikecAustin where house prices are dropping, they are going thru the roof in Dallas so you're probly better off staying in town and working for kestra or DFA.
