Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Management Layoffs and Reorg

There is a decent amount of historical evidence that the direction GF needs to go is offload a good amount of their management chain.

  1. They laid off a decent amount of managers during the 7 nm pivot, and GF did alright, but the problem is they brought some of those managers back and ballooned the management ranks, even further than before the 7 nm pivot.
  1. During the Covid work-from-home period, there were hardly any managers on-site. Productivity was at an all-time high because on-site people weren’t constantly being pulled into last-minute BS meetings and people who were working, on-site, were able to do their job roles without constant in-person micromanaging.

Use the Glint ratings to thin the management chain, to target the underperforming managers, and while we are at it, let’s thin that technical vitality/HR team where their people leave the company, only to come back, at higher titles and pay. What do they do, other than brag about their attendance at conferences and company-represented dinners?

GF will layoff 10% of Management’s teams (Directors and above). Hire new VP (or promote)and directors. Just look at 2018 (the latest large layoff), the number of VP and directors compared with the current numbers. They promoted all the Fab VP to Sr VP so they can promote the directors to VP…

If you look at T(#1 foundry in the world), the Fab is run by Director, not VP or Sr VP!!

All the title at GF is being balloon as this is what they call provide career growth for their employees

I'll be fair. Nobody is perfect. TC, PB, HP and the list goes on has things that they can do better.

The few times that I attended operations meetings, the people who get criticized more than deserves it. If you can't take the heat, you're in the wrong job. It's even more harsh at sec, tsmc or ti. Ibm was too soft which is why they are where they are now.
Word of advice, if you can't take the heat, go get a different job.

I like the phrase you used. “ She never delivered in her career. She is failed leader with multiple complains by her direct reports about her biased behavior and non transparent actions.” In fact another director/manager in malta immediately came to mind who fits this description perfectly.

I was looking for the words to describe her and those match what I was looking for perfectly. She has bounced from one leadership role to another. Has no major accomplishments over the tenure of her career. Nothing ever pans out. Big plans and fizzles out. She plays politics and has extreme favorites who she pushes above others. Uses diversity as a shield and sword. Never gets what’s going on. Surprisingly has to be taught how elements of the company work and function (surprising because after decades and she still doesn’t know this?) And finally she is the master of spin. Will spin a topic so much it’s like a dog chasing it’s tail with no progress in discussion

@lkm+1jMJbcxZ what you are talking about? all the senior managers under PB is a** li---r. You never join a morning DOM or weekly yield meeting? See how those managers lick PB, those guys like PB’s dog since they were working in Singapore. The company is running on a very wired direction. No one has ball to point out the issues to PB and only show the good side in their slides. As a GM, he treats himself as a senior operation managers and only focus on small things, like one lot Qtime scrap or why this tool not get released. PB is no vision guy and he is doing what other senior managers job and let the other senior managers doing nothing but lick his a-s.

Another example is Ed, who was leading program management of 7nm, which failed miserably. He didn't deliver anything and still kept climbing the ladder just because he is close to TC.

Another example is Hui Peng who was promoted to lead AME. Cr-p. She sucks . She never delivered in her career. She is failed leader with multiple complains by her direct reports about her biased behavior and non transparent actions. Now she is screwing up the whole AME in big way. While she tries to pretend that she is not biased , she just promoted a-s lickers and non performing employees under her who are loyal to her.

underperforming managers will never be laid off. Because these underperforming managers are the ones who are given the task of identifying and targeting individuals to be laid off. At GF the underperformers are promoted. A shining example is Mike Hogan, who after the re orgs was put in charge of all business and product development. Yet the man has not brought one single business, not earned a single dime for GF in his entire career here. Has not a clue about product development. The organization he has built under himself is a joke. How and how long can any company survive with such senior managers?

Hard to clean the org if whole leadership is corrupt, incompetent, biased and outdated. Most of the managers are either political connection or a-s lickers.
