Thread regarding Ford layoffs

When is the next round of layoffs?

Wondering if I can hold my breath until June or not

I am in ADAS in model e

I’m entering a stressful period in my life and would like to ideally not get screwed financially this upcoming year

Model e will be the main target. Too much red ink for too long, and too many LCC resources that can do the work.

OP your time at Ford is extremely limited.

Make contingencies to go back the office if you are remote. If you are remote and out of state, prepare to be separated. Very rarely can they not find someone local to do what a remote person does if being in the office is all that makes a difference to them. They will replace you with agency. The smart thing to do would have been to prepare, but the best to do this is now. I'd make sure you treat it like high time to have a runway available for 6 months of expense. Ford sales for '24 aren't going to be any better and I don't know how someone would expect them to be. You'll be fine if you are prepared. If not I'd make the effort to square that away ASAP. Management will not tell you for obvious reasons. They want to remain in the driver's seat as far as when you depart so therefore the best possible decision for you is to be in control of when you leave. If people knew, then there would be a mass exodus before they were ready, so take control and stay in control.

@kzj - you appear to have already started the New Year’s Eve celebrations. You started drinking the spiked kool aid

@kzj+1qljMIEM A better option would be to read the WSJ as JF tells them about actions before telling the employees. Employees are told last.

I went to the Global Town Hall and 2 other organization all-hands meetings before the holiday break, no leadership or management said anything about layoffs in January.

Are you looking for another job? If you're so stressed out, you better be looking. Or are you afraid that another company just might be worse...

@OP - there will be layoffs this year. One could hope they offer voluntary packages like other OEMs, however. In recent history that doesn’t seem to be the case. I suspect it will happen before June, but I’m not in the know. I can only offer an educated guess.

@tva - I’m not sure what 3 year party you were at, but it wasn’t one where I’m working. Sounds like I missed the invite.

You don’t sound well informed. There have been cuts in those areas. I’m sure there will be more.

I think they know and will begin in January to reduce overhead and expenses. This is more urgent now since sales for 24 will be flat to less due to the consumer running out of money. The three year party is over folks. Oh, and you're going back to the office as well. And, get ready for marketing, agency and contractor cuts ASAP. It's all bout cash flow and it's slow down.

I don't know how knowing a specific date for layoffs would change anything. You'd be best off to keep your resume updated, and be ready to move at any time.

I have no inside information, but I am expecting another round in the March to June time period. My guess is that first order of business for the engineering side is to determine which projects/technologies are no longer necessary or will be delayed and for IT and other support functions, what can be outsourced or further reduced. I'm expecting this to be another large round, so it might take them until June to figure it out, though JF, DF, etc. may need to cut costs sooner to save their jobs.
