Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Having IBM on resume is embarrassing

Having IBM on resume is embarrassing. IBM is filled with dinosaurs who can’t innovate. The only thing IBM is good at is financial engineering. Thats it. So why would anyone want to work for IBM is beyond me.

If you had a full tank of gas and a new opportunity after Alvind and the Pipmunks laid you off, you wouldn't be writing your ridiculous comment. That is pure unadulterated tripe written by someone who has nothing better to do. Trying to rewrite the history of IBM is like the Progressive Democrats have lost their advantage.

Yes there are a multitude of interesting projects at IBM, but all of them are failures going nowhere anytime soon. Management hasn't got a clue and so the laggard company can't even do AI projects properly, as they only hire young unprofessionals and the inexperienced. Now I call that tripe !

@k3

perhaps you should explain why you consider this posting tripe. I'm sure Alvind and the Pipmunks made you do this with some arm twisting. Or was it Modi who is su-king up to Trump ?? LOL !

It looks like the "Communications" (PR) people at IBM have hijacked this page. Sort spot touched?

The Original Poster was let go from IBM for incompetence and now works the McDonald's drive-thru. I'll take some fries with my burger, OP!

Do not ever be ashamed to have IBM on your resume. Look this forum has a lot of angry people with a lot people who want to express their anger and disappointment, some rightfully so. I retired after 22 years with IBM and worked most of my career with evolving modern technologies. I always took the bull by the ho-n and quickly became an expert in these technologies. I did a lot of learning on my own from my own personal dedication and hunger to learn. Likewise I am not ashamed of any of my previous employers who were/are leaders in their industries. I previously worked at a major worldwide construction equipment manufacturer and another computer industry company who paved the way for mini computers, networking, server clustering, middleware, and the Internet. Did executives make mistakes at all these companies. They sure did and the computer industry company got acquired twice. But I would not trade my experiences for anything and am happy and grateful for the opportunities I had at all of these companies. I am retired now but still have a tank full of gas to pursue my next opportunity.

I'm proud of the work I've done with IBM. I'd not choose to work there now - but in such a vast company, there's multitudes of interesting projects.

If you can get a security clearance, you might have a chance to avoid the McDonald’s job once canned.

if you are a senior with IBM regardless of years with the company kiss your chances goodbye. Very few companies want anyone over 40 yrs old unless you can work stocking shelves.

Some advice from an almost senior citizen: Don't try to hide it, and don't be embarrassed about it. Everyone in the IT industry knows what's going on with IBM, and a lot of now-superstar employees in the world were once in the same boat that you are in right now.

In your next job interview, you tell the interviewer that you were at IBM because you needed the money and you thought it would be a neat place to work. But now you're looking for advancement, and the chance to work with others with fresh ideas.

Believe me when I tell you...seasoned interviewers will understand.

Don't mention IBM on your resume - call it something else. How about BBI - Big Blue Invention ? After all, this company is all about make believe and fantasy, never delivering any real positive business results. And they have BBI consulting to prove it...
