Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

This is getting ridiculous

You can't just drop the layoff bo-b on us and then act like it's business as usual. You can't expect us to keep working like it's any other day. We are people, not robots, and stuff like this affects us. You can't just expect us to shrug it off and carry on like nothing happened. This is fu----g torture.

@2bzk+1othzucg It will be the week after next. Not even EC is dense enough to cull employees the week of September 11th.

There are 2 types of employees at Schwab (and most financial companies). Ones that have been laid off, and ones that have not been laid off yet. Whether you made the last few cuts or this one, you should be thinking of what you're going to be doing someday when it happens. It's build into the business strategy, they don't care about you.

I rather know its coming than be blindsided, so I'm glad they said it when they did.

Use this time to figure out where you are financially and where / what you want to do next if/when you leave Schwab. Having a plan helps to take the power away from them to control your mental wellness.

300 fewer employees and around 700 fewer contractors compared with beginning of August. Some of the employees were confirmed layoffs from the first week of August, so it is probably half and half.

How much has the employee count shifted so far?

It’s designed to force attrition so they don’t have to pay severance. Based on the employee count, it is working.

If you are that concerned about your job then use this like a working notice. Also, take extra time off as you see fit. While I’m ready to get this done, the 3 months to plan and prepare has been helpful.
