Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

WFH wasn't supposed to be around permanently

Did someone really think that WFH would become something permanent???
It may not be a popular opinion, but it's not very easy to find another job now so I hope to keep this one as long as possible and so I can't make many complaints.
I don't think CS is the ideal place, I'm just being realistic.

Hired just 8.5 months ago with "telecommute" on the offer letter. HR and hiring manager stated no plans to ever return to a physical office.

My exception to continue full-remote was denied. My team is over % exceptions and I'm free to leave if I wish was the answer. Good luck running your dinosaur company, peace out losers.

OP do you think everyone's brain is as smooth as yours? You know people are capable of remembering what has happened in the past right? The CEO of the company said it was going to be permanent. If WFH wasn't supposed to be around permanently, the CEO of the company probably shouldn't have said that huh? Nevermind that it IS going to be permanent, and that the reason this is done is to be hostile and encourage people to leave. Which it doesn't look like many did, so now they are going to layoff thousands of people. Now, when you are applying for unemployment like everyone else, try to remember in your next position that anonymously fellating your employer doesn't guarantee job security.

Someone get the old folks an Ensure and a blanket. Get with the times, this IS the future of computing (for those of us not replaced by AI). If you provide something tangible and physical (service industry), then there is no need to be in an office, in a cubicle. Sounds to me like there are some that miss telling the old "war" stories at work. Work isn't social hour, you should be working. It has been a blessing to not have the inane distractions of the workplace and being able to focus on my job. There ARE remote jobs out there and as companies figure they can attract better talent by not having them in the same city as the brick and mortar building, they will start hiring elsewhere. This is change and apparently Schwab only likes change when it effects the employees and not the wage masters.

@ksl+1nEmTgAi source? I just can't seem to find that in any of the town halls I've rewatched or emails I've reread since Walt and the EC reneged.

People here are delusional. They’ve always said that the concept of remote working is here to stay, in that a full time RTO with no flex was not on the table. They’ve never said you’ll never be asked for some level of RTO. People are being hysterical.

Yes---Walt said fully remote work was going to happen eventually, COVID just sped it up by 10 years. He said the 'vast, vast, vast majority of Schwabs jobs can be remote and that is WONDERFUL'! He said fully remote was not 'some temporary thing'. And as the other comment said just read the emails around the policy formerly known as WFP.

Yes, it was supposed to be permanent. Read past emails. Also if not permanent, why did they take our desks away and mail personal belongings to our homes?
