Thread regarding Synopsys Inc. layoffs

Layoffs in France

Have you received your letters? It seems like there was some manipulation to get rid of unwanted employees.

From my point of view, I believe that senior management in France used this layoff process as an opportunity to dismiss certain individuals they had already intended to remove, rather than applying the point-based criteria.

Just came across this post and the comment right now. It is definitely happening on the Ansys side of things as far as I’ve heard. Not really privy to what’s on the Synopsys side so far.

@k9 Laid off in May, and pretty happy about it too, and also regret nothing but my colleagues.
I'll dig into the rumor people describe here, if there's more money to take from this company I'm not gonna hesitate.

About that: did it happen on the Ansys or Synopsys side of things ? Both ?

@jt

Well said. I was laid off in March, and it's the best thing that could have happened to me. I actually feel guilty for having left behind the amazing people I worked with, really.

I received my letter last Thursday. For me it was expected, so no surprise, rather a relief. Still, hard to leave colleagues and friends though.
But yeah, I saw some other colleagues being let go, and I still can't figure out how that could have happened given the criteria and the rigid process at play.

I received my letter on Wednesday. I heard of legal non-compliance too but in my case I was expected to be affected. Everyone who were illegally affected should always go to court and not let these people get away with it. I feel happy to be affected by the PSE as I had no more motivation to work at this rotten company.

@eh, i agrée. I héar the same things from two diffèrent affected teams, too. I’m French, but I don’t live in France; however, I work a lot with téams in France. Whàt I heard was thát not only did they violate the Code du travail, but also the Code pénal. If this was trùly done, it’ll be a complete disàster for la direction.

I’ve been speaking with everyone over in a specific team that got hit by the PSE (for the record, I’m not on that team myself). Based on those conversations, it is totally obvious that massive manipulation took place. And it wasn't even subtle—it was so blatant that you’d think a company with a decent compliance department would never risk it, especially since the legal consequences would be absolutely disastrous if anyone took them to court. Frankly, the stuff I’ve been told is completely nauseating and repulsive, and it makes me think the HR Country Manager of Ansys France deserves to rot in he-l. Luckily, I’ve already landed a new role and turned in my resignation. There's no way I'm sticking around at a company this devoid of morals.

Not in the PSE, but I also heard that they did not comply with the law. I advise everyone concerned to join forces and take the matter to Prud'hommes. In France, employees are much better protected than employers. Good luck.

@OP yes, I received my letter 2 weeks ago.
Don’t know if this is manipulation, but there was some « agreement » around people who wanted to leave while they should stay and people who should leave and wanted (or not) to stay.

@af Exactly the same thing is happening in one of Asian countries. From what I’ve heard, our labor laws are quite strict; laying off employees requires considerable preparation and adherence to a precise process, and even then, the reality is that companies often lose in court. Furthermore, labor union laws are also strict. However, the company has continued to ignore all of these regulations, repeatedly engaging in unfair labor practices and illegal acts, and unfairly dismissing a large number of employees. Our colleagues who were laid off are all high-performing, outstanding individuals. The selection process clearly did not target surplus staff or redundant positions; rather, it appears to have been aimed at those whom their superiors wanted to get rid of. Furthermore, it seems the company’s tactics were quite underhanded.

I am from a team not impacted by the PSE but I did hear from the office that some people with higher scores were targeted despite them being “safe” according to the legal norms. It seems like they did not care about the law and what was negotiated with the CSE and went ahead with what they wanted anyway.
