@k8+1jt1sbh2v, the company has over 13,000 employees. How do you know what the “competent” or “loyal” ones are doing about anything? Or are you just running your mouth without any real knowledge about what you’re talking about. You’re a whiner. I get it. But at least try to have something to back up your gripes.
The hurry for the VSP is for you to take the money, bank it, and secure another job...
They are not in a hurry to lay-off because payroll costs are so small compared to capital expenditures. Also, the Oxy corporate structure is pretty simple and doesn’t need much tweaking like what happens in the majors all of the time.
Any VSP would only be available for current employees. Those already shown the door (you for example), get nothing but the opportunity to shed their tears on sites like this one. As the saying goes, if you have an issue, I have a tissue.
If things keep up like they are a VSP would be a nice pink slip for sure. At least you get an opportunity to fire youself by looking in the mirror and saying "You're fired". At this point I would fire myself. I just don't see how Oxy can keep going without some sort of reduction in force.
Better translation: When my VP (supervisor) walked in (gave me my poor performance review) and offered me a job (pink slip) or the VSP (an opportunity to just quit) , it was an obvious choice.

The competent employees are already putting feelers out just in case they are offered a package. The not so competent ones or extremely loyal employees are just like sitting ducks. The extremely loyal employees have perhaps never been jacked around by a company or have drank the kool-aide. You know carbon capture, blah,blah,blah.
Sacked?... Oxy has been such a non event since the last century. When my VP walked in and offered me a job or the VSP, it was an obvious choice. It makes you sleep better if you think I was tossed out with the trash, but it's not the case. Oxy can't afford to lose competent staff... Your ship is sinking....

Uh-oh. The Oxy staff don't want to look at their company or themselves as to the real problem, so they are throwing the 'you got canned' deflection tactic. Piper Alpha Proud attitude on display again. Hiding behind a message board is the usual Oxy tactic.
Hope you weren't counting on that Oxy stock grant to pay for that backyard pool momma and the kids want this summer... At least you won't pay capital gains tax when you cash out ;-)
44% is nothing compared to how far down the stock will go after OPEC is done with their near term plans and Iran, Iraq, and Libya ramp up. If the Company still won’t lay-off or have a VSP after that there is something wrong.
