Cisco impact from tariffs

how much of Cisco's supply chain is Canada, Mexico and China?

25% tariffs on a Cisco Switch made in Mexico is gonna hurt.
Retailitory tariffs are also gonna hurt.

ouch

What you describe is a 300 year out of date economic model called mercantilism.

There’s nothing complicated about trade imbalances, unless you have room temp IQ. Country A sells more to country B, country A is making money, country B is spending money. Country A is becoming richer, country B is becoming poorer. Country B’s only recourse is to borrow money or print money or do both. The USA is doing both.

China's total balance of trade is a whopping $992.16 billion for the full year of 2024. To break it down further, the country's exports reached $3.58 trillion, while imports were at $2.59 trillion. This significant trade surplus is a result of China's strong export-oriented economy.¹

In December 2024 alone, China's trade surplus soared to $104.84 billion, exceeding expectations and marking the largest trade surplus since February 2024. This surge was driven by a 10.7% year-over-year increase in exports, with imports also rising by 1.0%.

The total trade balance for the USA in 2024 was a deficit of $1,074.5 billion. This is based on the total exports of $1,894.5 billion and total imports of $2,969.0 billion.¹

Trade surplus = You’re getting wealthier
Trade deficit = You’re becoming poorer

The only people that don’t care about trade deficits are corporate hacks who couldn’t care less if the USA goes down the toilet so long as the they are continued to allow the grift of producing widget x with 3rd world prices, while importing widget x and selling it at 1st world prices. I’m

@bp+1jk3wg783 doesn't understand basic economics. Read a bit on trade balance before making yourself look like an uneducated MAGA. Which I'm going to guess you are.

The amount of fentanyl coming from Canada is de minimis. What did get through was probably smuggled in by some USAID workers.

Canada accounts for less than 1% of fentanyl coming into the country, maybe stop using your head as a suppository and read something more substantial than The very hungry caterpillar...........

There is a positive correlation between fentanyl use and LRs.

The tariffs are more to stop the flow of fentanyl into the US.

And we all have healthcare which covers everything for almost nothing!

BTW, how well has the US done in preventing pew pews from crossing into Mexico? As long as there is demand there will be supply for all these things.

That formula is a quick recipe to the downfall of this nation, the backbone of which is the middle class, unless you envy banana states like Brazil or India as some kind of economic utopia.

You're more than 50 years late in recognizing plans the right has been putting forth in documents written in English where Americans will never find it. Corporate communist Alan Greenspan has been saying for ages companies need employees based on need, not ability to pay and it's the job of the government to bring in as many laborers as needed to crush wages. Remember when President Musk fired 75% of X? Remember how his lap dog doesn't pay his employees or contractors? It's like no one read The Scorpion and the Frog.

“If the price of more Americans being employed means I have to pay more, then so be it.”

That is not what is going to happen. It is going to incentivize our tech companies to offshore more production.

The tariffs are more to stop the flow of fentanyl into the US. Since Trudeau-Castro sold out Canada to the CCP and Mexico is run by the cartels, coupled with Biden's open border policy, it was a free flow of dr-gs into the US. This has ki-led 1,000s, primarily impacting lower economic groups.

I believe this will hurt USA not just in short term but long term. If even nations that have been close allies to USA are getting bullied. Why would any nation trust doing business with U.S.? It just takes one tantrum and they’re in a bad spot. I think they will unite and exclude U.S.A. and understandably so. It’s too risky doing business with a nation run like this. The USA bullying the world will only give more credibility to other superpowers like China.

“ Please don't mention DeepSeek and smacked in the same sentence. We'll soon find out they haven't been truthful about the resources used to build the AI model. Just wait”

You are missing the point. Of course they stole from OpenAI. Of course they used Llama code. Of course they had a few H100s along with their H800s

they released a brilliant Diffused, COT model as open source into the wild.
AI will never be the same.
And they did so with a relatively small budget, few people and under strict U.S. sanctions.

The race to the bottom is on and ain’t nobody gonna buy a “HyperMcFabric” or whatever Cisco calls their obscenely overpriced server stack these days.

I’m glad Trump is doing this. For decades corporations have been taking advantage of “free trade” to hire third world labor, importing products and services into the USA free of any import taxation or tariffs and selling at 1st world prices all the while amassing levels of profits never seen in the history of this country.

The downfall of America started with NAFTA where they promised only blue collar jobs would be outsourced. Now almost everything is outsourced and the American people have to contend with third world labor imported in order to inflate and already massive labor poor supposedly cause employers can’t find any “talent” in a country of 340,000,000 people.

Meanwhile, wealth is being siphoned out of this country like never before given massive trade deficits to the tune of $773 billion USD per annum, with the only recourse being growing the debt or printing trillions of dollars out of thin air to replenish the money supply which subsequently destroys Americans purchasing power and had led to income inequality and income disparity the likes of which have never been seen in the history of this country.

Bottom line, if you want to sell in America then you have to make it in America and employ Americans.

And before some of you start whining that you won’t be able to afford that 5th 75-inch flat screen, I couldn’t care less. I’m not going to ignore the fact that many of my countrymen are struggling to find any meaningful jobs to support their families, because I’m making a decent living and who cares about anyone else.

That formula is a quick recipe to the downfall of this nation, the backbone of which is the middle class, unless you envy banana states like Brazil or India as some kind of economic utopia.

If the price of more Americans being employed means I have to pay more, then so be it.

It looks like the daily produce cost will probably go up but I am sure Trump lovers are rich so they don't care.

You also don't care about poor Americans who will have hard time.

You will help rich friends and family get rich

the BRICS nations just added Indonesia (with a population almost as big as USA. They were one of our allies)
BRICS is growing, now it is ten countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates

China is building railroads in Africa while the US it slapping Tariffs on our closest friends and allies.
BYD is eating Tesla for lunch

Only the people [poors] will be impacted by the tariffs.

Once all the income based taxes go away only those who have to spend most of their income to live are going to be hurt. If you own your house and cars and can live on low risk investments the lack of taxation means they grow faster! Higher risk investments in an economy built on 70% consumer spending will be toast. My depression era parents who went through much the same thing prepared me for what might come again.
