Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Vacation policy for experienced hires

I received an email a fews days ago asking me to update my prior to exxon experience via a form.

When I hired on only received 10 years and "lost" 9 years towards the 5 week milestone.

Looks like exxon is making a play to retain experienced hires by giving credit for prior experience (as the should anyways...)

My understanding is the company gives you a maximum of 10 years external credit toward vacation entitlement. So yeah, if you join the company with anything over 10 years external experience, you only get 10 years credit when it comes to vacation time.

Nope. I've seen them do this several times during my employment.

@jjc. You are generally right. Those of us left are needed and add value, much to the chagrin of HR. They hate us and want see us die

This is part of a larger vacation policy change, which includes the elimination of vacation accrual on Jan 1st. These measures are designed to minimize corporate costs associated to voluntary and involuntary separations.

I always thought the vacation time given was fair.
I wasn't an experienced hire. Was no such thing in 1978.

All the experience hires I know were the first to be put in the PIP and NSI. They all left the company either from that or years of abuse.

@OP Why are you even in the workforce?

Sounds like you should have retired years ago. Retire and you can have vacation every day.

Don’t worry, we will PIP you out soon, just like we do the rest of the experienced hires.

I tend to think that policy change is for the new hires in the C-suite.

Wait, it takes 19 years of service to get 5 weeks a year at Exxon? My current company does it in 5 years. The he-l is wrong with Exxon?
