The H1B grift is over!

This should definitely help!

I applaud the effort....$100K on each new H1B. But it should have been MORE. Given the peanuts they pay for H1Bs it's not going to be enough to deter these companies I fear. Trump should made it a yearly $100K fee at minimum and not a one time thing.

@p5 your a liar. No one has developed a plan for this that quickly.

Guess what, this move is having the opposite impact. My boss said, with the new cost on H1B, we will now be giving all of our current H1Bs retention rewards. And guess how that will be paid for.... cuts to FTE.

@p2 thanks, my windows tinted like a real CEO. Meanwhile, you're hauling a$$ to the medical for your tech-neck crisis, struggling to find a spot in the P2 parking structure before the morning standup.

@jf lol, go back to reading the news while you're supposed to be working. Jf, as in Jim Farley? You think just like him.

lol...this is a joke. Latest news...nothing is going to change, all H1B employees continue to work as they do today.

Here’s Amanda Goodall’s (TheJobChick) take on the H-1B visa fee thing.

I'm a Ford employee and U.S. Citizen. Last year I applied internally to a Product Manager role. I reached out to the hiring manager wanting to let him know I was a good fit, but was told the position had already been offered to someone else...pending that person's H1B visa (which ended up going through). But he was impressed with my experience nonetheless.

So yeah, something needed to be done about IT workers for sure.

@hk Tell JobChick that this is weird, she seems spoiled and should get a real job. We have internships available to apply for on our site.

JobChick:
Optics: “We’re cracking down on H-1B abuse.”
Reality: The architecture of underpayment and exploitation doesn’t change. It just gets a new cover fee.
Fees can be waived.
Pennies to be paid for cheap labor that won't/can't change jobs.
Companies will continue offshore teams, departments, warehouses to LLC.
This is new revenue stream for gov., not for you.

I read the replies, I think eventually it will be time when H1B VISAS will not attract anyone anymore after the sober up and ego. The new world is becoming very different and its a matter of 5-10 years when America becomes like the UK , Danish Empire and the rest of empires that fell hard to the bottom.

Not just Indians, but Chinese also are guilty of nepotism. Hire based on nationality, not experience, skill or proven results.

The Gravy Train is running empty, it is about time a change was made. I think $100,000 is not enough, should be $250,000 then when DF and JF choose to hire more H1Bs they can pay for it.

The fee will only apply to new applicants, not existing holders or renewals, the official said.
It will first apply in the upcoming lottery cycle for new applicants, the official added.

Ford will keep firing Americans and hiring in Mexico and India.

its not the H1B employees who will be paying for this... its you and me and the American consumers. it's the employer who sponsor the H1B visa because they file the application who will pay. So it's ford. do you think ford will stop sponsoring H1B? maybe, maybe not.... do you think ford and the big corporations will stop outsourcing job... no.. they will just go to canada, brazil and mexico for TN visas. or just expand the offices in india.. or just lay off more workers and transfer the cost to the consumers to pay for the trump tax on visas.

@be

For existing H1B visa holders who are outside of the country, they have until 11pm Saturday September 20 to return to a U.S. port of entry. (that's 11pm prevailing time at the port of entry) The rush is now on to get those one-way tickets.

After 11pm, someone must pay $100,000 to enable re-entry to the U.S. I imagine that many people will be stuck outside of the U.S. not having seen the memo!!!

Then they will get dinged for RTO and badge swipes.

I’m sure I know of few Ford employees who are Indian nationals and who are in India on vacation currently. If they don’t return by midnight Sunday by 12 AM, they won’t be allowed to enter.

Ford will pull workers from Mexico to backfill.

If they aren’t hiring Americans anyway, what difference does it make?

On my team of 20 people, 5 of us are not H1-B the remainder are. Within other teams I see mostly Chinese and Indian nationals.

This only applies to new visa applications, so just another ‘tremendous’ change that is toothless and wont last longer than a ‘stormy night’

Its 100k annual fee per h1b hire. It’s a premium to hire h1b. How many companies can give that. They may just offshore the work to Mexico.

Here’s a question.

Is there now no cap on the number of H-1B visas?

In other words, while this sounds great for the American tech worker, what they’re really doing is selling H-1B visas for $100,000?

by

Post ID: @ac+1k5hvqhmc

$100k spread over, what, 3 years?
Not $100k every year?
And not for renewals?

This is mostly symbolism over substance.

If they really wanted to help the struggling unemployable American tech worker, they would paus all H-1B visas until the employment for American tech workers recovered.
