Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

My hours keep getting cut

I don't get this, why do my hours keep getting cut when we are chronically understaffed? We're trying desperately to hire more people and at the same time, they're screwing over the existing employees by cutting our hours. Why? There's no logic to it. Do they really think we're so desperate that we'll work for free and finish things off the clock just to keep our jobs? They're in for a major surprise and an empty store if that's what they think.

Yes, I’m very aware that happens. It’s frowned upon at HO, but they look the other way in many cases. Open doors, and escalations, lately, are bringing it to light more and more. Still, though, when hours are back door cut like that, they typically do not cut good associates’ hours. Or, maybe I should say, they aren’t supposed to. When the hours of good associates are cut, that makes things worse because now you have a much higher percentage of ‘poor’ associates working and no good ever comes of that. You can see this easily if you look at OGP. When associates with high pick rates get cut, orders don’t get picked. Hopefully, you see what I mean. Having said all that, store mgt can sometimes make poor decisions. A clever associate can bring this to the attention of the store manager and in most cases, that’s all it takes to fix preferential treatment. Hope this helps.

@jbpd+1gfxo0w4-- It is not that the stores are coordinating or that their budget hours are crossed over. It is the district managers who tell certain stores to cut hours because other stores have gone over their allotted hours. Favorite stores or managers get more hours so other stores must cut hours. Happens all the time.

I’m going to NOPE that. At my store it seems like only the cute females are keeping their hours.

Dear @ihcl+1gfxo0w4, this sounds pretty fishy to me. First, stores do not coordinate hours and their headcount and budget lines do not cross, ever. That makes your whole post suspicious.

I got my hours cut and I have never missed a day in five years. I have even picked-up shifts in the past when we were short handed. I have never had a point on my record and am always being asked to train other people even though I am just a part time associate. But they cut my hours from 4-5 days a week to two days a week. Manager says its because of other stores going over their hour quota so we have to cut hours.

This isn’t quantum mechanics. It’s simple. If you’re a sl--e ball, call in a lot, don’t do what you’re asked and generally a pi$$ poor associate, your hours will probably be cut. It’s their way of saying “You suck”. I don’t know of one single good associate whose hours have been cut, but. I know plenty who are in the ‘bad’ category who have been cut. This has nothing to do with long term, hourly rate or benefits.

That’s what Walmart does. They will cut full timers and the hire and give new employees 40 hrs. Their logic makes no sense. I guess they want you to quit? They don’t want any long term associates? Because they definitely don’t value the long term associates. After almost 10 years I was over it. Got a new job and walked out didn’t even put in my two weeks. Get out and find another job Walmart is BS and doesn’t deserve any loyalty.

So go get a different job. Is that so hard?

Despite what you might think, the company is not a welfare organization. I know you’d prefer all decisions were made with your personal well being in mind. Sadly, until your office is next to Doug’s, that’s just not going to happen. It’s foolish to think it will.

It’s a free country. If you don’t like your employment situation, change it.

To everyone blaming this person. You're all inconsistent for one reason my store only got enough hours for AP to have 1 of us working at all, no part time nothing. I'm now being forced to move to another department because of such bull. You cannot tell me that I'm to blame when the entire company is doing this.

From a manager’s perspective, some associates have a chip on their shoulder, they don’t want to do what you ask them to do and they are not friendly. They complain about everything. They abuse the break policy, they are late to work, they call in, they use foul language and the list goes on. Not to even mention things like theft. If your hours are getting cut, go look in the mirror to see the reason why.

My hours haven’t been cut. Another girl at my store is complaining to everyone her hours got cut but she’s a pain in the rear and got a mouth on her. We’d be better off without her. I think mgt is afraid to fire her but I would

This isn’t a hard one to answer. Your hours are being cut, and I’m sorry to say it like this, because you are a problem child. I’m sorry to be blunt, but, that’s what it is.

Just ask around, not everyone’s hours are being cut. Perhaps your “Friends” are too, but if they are like you, that’s totally understandable, right? Birds of a feather flock together and all that.

Associates that are not problems are not being cut. If you want to keep your hours, then quit calling in. Be on time and do what your DM or lead asks you to do.
