Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Layoffs to follow?

Unless GM was able to get rid of enough people based on reviews, chances are we'll be looking at more layoffs soon. Although to be honest, after hearing about people being let go without anything, the prospect of layoffs suddenly seems less scary than it did before.

2019 had record profits before the layoffs, too.

Managers don't know who the best workers are, they just know who they like.

They stack ranked their teams that way, and the bean counters drew a line through the list. Everyone below the line is going.

At least the managers will get to keep working with their friends.

360 degree manager feed back is not anonymous. Hr will share the person name with managers and they will plot against you. Be careful when you take those reviews. People gone will be who put valid reviews for there managers.

"Becoming a performance driven organization" is how they are positioning themselves.
Take from that what you will!
Some thoughts:
*How might a woke corporation define "performance"?
*Leaders and managers can check boxes to demonize or elevate you.
*"Performance" metrics haven't been defined yet, have they?
*People who have been faking it are very likely in deep, deep trouble.

After reading many comments, I do not believe that this was a "normal performance-based layoff."
My suspicion is this: Managers were told to cut a percentage and used all 11 watts of thinking power to come up with a list of people who were unpleasant to deal with regardless of performance, while sparing friends, old colleagues and popular people from the cutting blade.

"Not a big deal." - um, that's bad karma.
This isn't the end of the cuts. We are coming off of a year with record profits. As downward momentum builds with a decline in sales and stock price, things will get BRUTAL. Count on it, and be nice to each other. The person feeling the pain now that you are cavalier about might be the decision maker one day when you are trying to line up a new job. Don't sh*t-talk people or back stab. Have some empathy!

PS Media parrots other media. They will get it wrong and move on to the next story. What affects you now is what you bring to the table at work. Now that we know that they really are collecting performance data and actually paying attention to card scans, get in that desk and put in some honest work or you will be in 'round two'.

Also, why is media reporting these cuts as layoffs? From what I understand, people were being let go, not laid off?
