Was hit with layoff notice yesterday morning after the end of my overnight shift. We had our director Magically show up out of the blue and call a meeting the last 30 minutes of shift. Our manager wasn’t even on the list which was weird and we had been told he was out sick until last night and they told us he no called no showed. Turned out that wasn’t the truth. He was laid off last week. He was told to keep his mouth shut or lose his severance. He fought to be in the room with us when we were told but that was denied. We got the meeting at 0630 and immediately after got 1:1 notices. Meetings ran late for those impacted, for those safe they all knew in 10 minutes. After 2 hours post shift end I got my notice. ICT TSE- we lost 70% of our team. This isn’t fake news. A ton of great people were impacted.

VP point was relevant. I am not in that VP's org but I got his announcement because he added other people from outside his org (that's why everyone was in bcc). I was impacted today. Checked my calendar before going to bed and there was no 1:1 and then a 1:1 showed up on my calendar today before 7 am.

I guess the vp “retiring” was relevant. 🫤

You guys are making a huge deal out of a 63-year-old vp’s retirement?

That's correct. Operations unit will not get emails either if a VP from Engineering or Sales retires. This announcement from Eng. VP to retire is highly suspicious. I'm sure "they" contacted him and asked him to make a choice, retire (keep RSUs) vs. layoff (no RSUs).

Based on other comments, it appears Spot group will be impacted - I'm surprised by this. How about Operations, any rumors out there?

You're in support, so of course you don't need to get any emails about an engineering VP retiring. I'm in his org, so I did. I doubt I'd be alerted if an HR or Sales VP retired.

I'm an employee in support. There has been no talk or hint of layoffs internally. We're short staffed as it is and case volume is up. Not much room to let people go.

About the cafe in RTP. Take Home Pizza Thursday Begins February 2nd

This site is to report layoffs. I wont discredit someone doing that anonymously and with good intentions. Reading this post, someone appears to be reporting insider info and that's respectful in some ways or disrespectful in other ways.

If I search outlook, the person mentioned to retire in VP ONTAP admin engineering is still here and there has been no emails from the company stating he is retiring.

This thing on this site will be an epic fake news or we'll see on wednesday.

From my perspective, netapp remains firmly committed into cloud products and are right to do so. This has downsides in a recession economy. Markets move down and up all the time. No one remember or cares what happened a short time ago. It is the long term end result that matters. To all you netapp haters, I'd say think bigger and beyond instant gratification.

Looks like the spot team is the first one to be affected.

Regarding trolls there must be a way to do a netapp employee only discussion to eliminate them from the chats.

Netapp location specific cafe menu item of the day? . seriously gotta be a way ; or another forum ?

You should not expect to see an announcement about layoffs. NetApp is not very transparent about this. I know several people were impacted in May 2022 - yet nothing was ever announced even though more than 5% were impacted. Some companies are more thoughtful and transparent than others. NetApp really sucks at this and that is why everyone is on this site trying to figure out what is going on... Major loss of productivity for the company.

VP guy just “retired”, out of the blue . He was knee deep in his work, passionate about it, but then decided to retire.. here it comes! But don’t expect to get option to announce YOUR retirement, but rather, if your number is up, you will be retired. Good luck with all you future endeavors !

The layoffs have been known internally for a while. The list of names have been known to managers.
The only question has been about timing, would it be this week or some time in March.
All the doubters here must really like sucking on GK’s c*ck or must be clueless to how badly this company is being run

We better see some email or some communication about this by end of next week, otherwise the poster should jump off a bridge for being a miserable sc-mbag that gets off on stressing people off.

Whether it’s Monday Tuesday or Wednesday, it’s happening. Sleep tight folks, even if you’re not affected there will be major interruptions to the week either way.

I am the OP. I have correlated insider info that it's happening Wednesday. That's all I'm gonna say.

I'm taking 100:1 odds on it happening. Care to place your bets?

Tuesday it is going down. If your manager requests a mtg with you on Mon. for Tues. in the morning that is out of cycle with your normal 1-1 - this is your sign that you are on the list.

It’s been long rumored that layoffs would happen between the end of January and the middle of February. I think there’s enough info out there to know it’ll be between this week and middle February.

Nobody knows. Your have a bunch of neigh sayers trying to get everyone charged up. If the suspicions were more than noteworthy they'd be on Bl-*-nd where there's at least a small level of authenticity verification. And yet here they are, on an open forum, where anyone can make up rumors. Just saying. (Name obscured so this site doesn't remove the post. Again.)

NetApp is expecting a resource action next week with 4-7% of teams hit. The dates range from Monday to Thursday. This is a broad layoff with managers making a stack ranked list, passing it to your 2nd line to prioritize and then passed to a VP to veto those choices... So "who" and what is being sent from top down with targets distributed by leadership on group but it will be sand paper. Word it is till hit every group and org without particular focus as the objective is to hit cost/expense targets. Some products (Astra Data Store) are already cut, but in other areas redundant internal teams or customer facing groups that don't touch customers will be impacted.
Currently NetApp is losing nearly 100% of renewals and refreshes to Pure, cloud numbers are suffering from weak leadership and weak sales leadership (the ex Microsoft tribe) are just cashing in and can't be troubled to know your names. Leadership has been ineffective for the last 3 years. NetApp needs a new CEO and a new Sales Leader... Hire and promote for talent, cronyism does not produce success in business.
Get your resumes up to date, get a cert, network in the industry, convert your investments to personal emails and update phone numbers and make sure all your personal data is off your laptop. Companies are still hiring broadly so roles are out there, just hard to land. Netapp was a great place but there are others.
