Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Show your disgust with the lack of sharing by the SLT with the fab workers who make the place run. While they're toasting themselves like Generals, it's the lowly infantry Fab soldiers that bleed every shift to make GF succeed.

Why waste the time, just get a new job or retire.

@3fcq actually I stepped out of line months ago. Instead of debating what to wear, I am deciding whether to give GF more than two weeks notice when I'm ready. I have a few offers and a final interview with another company tomorrow.

also I'm pro-labor, but don't see any of the US fabs ever unionizing. GF provides more than adequate perks and benefits, and pays more to people than what they've probably ever made. Working conditions aren't bad either. This is a harsh reality for those of you/us that feel wronged.

Another harsh truth is that GF managers are flaky and the incentive plan is flawed, so actual contributors aren't always awarded appropriately. It seems this past year it happened in higher frequency and that sucks. I've been there before, but was fortunate this year. Still leaving.

I had to go back and find this post from August because it's a good read and good advice for a lot of recent posters: @3ygl+1coj3BWp. You'll be valued elsewhere. If you're tied to GF for some reason, do what you can to improve your situation.

I worked at a startup in 1990s that went puclic, small less than 1000 people. The atmosphere during IPO was phenomenal. Everyone was so excited it was like Christmas.

@1ugi so your point is wear a red shirt and no one will care or truly know the meaning behind it. Great, go ahead. If you wear red tomorrow your coworkers will think it's your favorite color and weird that you express it that way. And everyone else won't notice or know you've done it in solidarity because there's probably only 10 people that read this site.

All the people that care are already down in Manhattan enjoying champagne.

Nah dude. Again, there are 3000+ people on site. Some are going to accidentally wear red that day. How evil would it be to assume everyone with red was conspiring? Are you really that nervous?

I wore red two days this week. I’m still here.

@1xmg OP suggests switching to red avatars, others mentioned wearing red shirts. Those actions take place IRL, not on this site. If organized, they signal much more than a vote of no confidence in/distaste with the dealings of the company.

@1rdy+1dvgwlj7 do you think a company who doesn't care about people quitting for low pay or ineffective managers would give any credence to some d-mb post on some d-mb site ?

@1axm nah, just someone giving fair warning that GF won't mess around with something like this. There are protections for people trying to unionize, but wearing a red shirt or changing your teams picture to something red because of an anonymous internet post probably isn't protected. Plus most people would probably roll their eyes based on the cringe factor.

If you need your paycheck and rely on GF for it, as in you don't have a new job lined up, then it's not a smart move to jeopardize that. @1qov is the best advice in this thread. Move on if you can.

Oh come in now. How chicken are we? Wear red if you want to show solidarity. There’s like over 3000 people on site. Some will wear red without even knowing, so don’t be ridiculous.

Just don’t be too vocal about it or get caught being tied to the initiative.

I see red everyday. If I got fired on this particular day, good on the company. This place sucks. They’re hemorrhaging people and can’t afford to fire every red shirt.

I respect your individual opinion but my personal opinion just leave the company for better job is the best protest any one can do rather than red avatar.

Please show your concern in survey or leaving job .

For those who want to remain at GF (for now), a reminder that NY and VT are at will employment states. This means they can fire you whenever for whatever reason. They won't have patience for this type of antic so tread carefully.
