Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Cisco has now gotten rid of Cigna

United Health is horrible health insurance. They’ve cheapened out on our health care. This company su-ks.

This absolutely is a freaking nightmare. It doesn’t matter when this was announced UHC is terrible. For those of you who are getting Zepbound meds for your health it will no longer be available to you as of June 30th. You will be forced to take Wegovy which is not as effective. That would not be happening if we were still under Cigna.

This is why we need to unionize.

All engineers getting 39 hours a week at $7.25/hr minus union dues with no benefits will be GREAT! You'll have to fight off the applicants!

This is part of managed decline...more like managed demolition.

United Health su-ks.

"This is why we need to unionize. Companies couldn’t make these arbitrary and capricious changes if we had a union"
Only absolute fools and lazy people believe a union in ANY IT environment helps innovation and employees that strive to get ahead. It protects the lazy and drives costs up needlessly for less than capable skills.

@ink+1va7HRUx, they announced months ago that they were dropping Cigna and switching to a single healthcare benefits company option unless you were in CA and could use Kaiser.

I'm not sure why you're saying you're going to have to scramble to find new doctors with only a few weeks notice. First, as part of this change, the majority of the providers that were under Cigna are also under UHC. Secondly, the change doesn't take effect until 1 Jan 2025, so you have a little over 9 weeks, not "a few weeks".

The biggest issue I see with the change is that Cisco has lost its bargaining power when Cigna and UHC get into contract negotiations and threaten to drop Duke Healthcare or WakeMed. In the past, Cisco could say if you don't get it negotiated, we'll just move our employees to your competitor. Now that they can't play Cigna against UHC, they've lost that leverage. Hopefully they got enough cost savings to compensate because those of us currently on UHC have to hope the negotiations between UHC and Duke Health reach an agreement before Oct 31 or we lose our doctors w/ only 12 weeks notice from when the negotiations started.

Many companies only have one healthcare provider as an option, and Cisco has had 3 for yrs. You've been spoiled by it and by the fact that Cisco actually pays for your health insurance plan. If you're single and have no dependents, your healthcare benefits are pretty much covered. It's us that have a spouse and children we have to cover that have to pay for the benefit. Many companies don't do that. They charge you 100% of the premium costs.

@low+1va7HRUx, I'm sorry you don't like UnitedHealthcare and had a bad experience with it. I had the opposite experience and in my case, it was Cigna denying my claims and UHC has paid all my claims.

Have you been asleep - they told us this in June. You should’ve been complaining then.

I’m just pi---d they didn’t tell us ahead of time. They knew about it because they had to be in negotiations. Now we have to scramble to find new doctors with only a few weeks notice.

Cisco has NO respect for their employees. This change is very big. Most of us accepted employment with Cisco for the health insurance benefits offered and PTO policies. To me it seems that Cisco is violating our contractual rights and terms of employment.

The great Cisco benefits squeeze

Cigna being dropped is a kick in the groin.
Wish we could take a day off to recover but... unlimited PTO

Decreased health benefits + VTO = Sick and Tired

why? Mainly because it leads to increased pressure, confusion and burnout.

With no set limits on time off, employees feel uncertain about how much is acceptable. This leads to employees ignoring symptoms, working while sick and becoming superspreaders. Dropping Cigna is just the beginning

They already took away PTOs. Now this. Next maybe 401k match?

"UnitedHealthcare is the worst insurance company for paying claims with about one-third of claims denied." And I can attest to this by personal experience.
