Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Salary gaps getting ridiculous… ask your next NCG how much they were offered.

The 'Great Resignation' is creating massive pay disparities between new hires and current employees at tech firms like Google and Amazon, sparking tensions on teams and a ripple effect of departures.

TSMC will pay more because they are desperate. They are hiring outside of the industry and struggling to even do that (from speaking with a desperate recruiter).

In the end I turned down their "best" offer. The TC looked good on paper, but throw in Phoenix metro (negative for my family), COL (housing in north Phoenix) and dependence on HQ I figured there was zero chance I'd be happier there.

BTW, non-fab and in a support org.

whoever treats it like a threat is ridiculous

most of us don't show up everyday because we like it, we show up because we get a paycheck. Added bonuses are good colleagues, easy work and so on

there are valid reasons to want to stay, but still demand a higher wage. If the company doesn't agree on the higher wage, maybe it's more worth it to accept the other offer. Having that in hand is just a good idea.

" HR knows most threats to leave are not acted upon. "

GF gave them better offer and they stayed. They are not allowed to discuss the counter offer so you assume they just changed their mind. Didn't you notice they bought a new car.

@rfb HR knows most threats to leave are not acted upon. Best way to increase earnings is to be willing to call their bluff and actually leave. Spend a year or two with a different company and then see how much GF will throw at you to return.

@iji you've proven that they don't have to give you a raise to make you stay. Have an offer in-hand and then ask for a raise. This has had mixed success. It worked for at least one person I know. Another person left because they didn't match under similar circumstances.

I know this too. I have been begging for a raise for 2-3 years. Hitting and surpassing all my yearly goals/targets. But nothing. Yet my mgt chain keeps quietly getting promoted etc….. I think they don’t make announcement a because all us little guys keep getting stiffed…. But watch their title in emails etc
