Institutional investors are in charge. Full stop. Want to understand the moves at CSCO, understand those organizations first, and it’ll all make sense.

The question that's been asked here over and over again for many years is "what can the next CEO do to create real growth in a company the size of Cisco which is entrenched in legacy markets and who is both capable and willing to take the job over leading a new high growth startup where they're not dragging technical debt measured in hundreds of thousands of engineering-years behind them?" The answers are always "nothing" and "no one."

As CEO for less than 25% of Cisco's existence Chuck isn't responsible for most of that technical debt. Accruing it to starve out competitors from the 1990s was a win that's still producing near 65% gross margins today, so it's arguable that it was the right long term play knowing nothing lasts forever.

He’s also chairman of the board. So it’s completely captured. Do you honestly think he’d entertain a vote to remove himself? It wouldn’t even get there btw.

Only way to get this psychopath out is to vote out existing board members at the annual shareholder event. If you own any stock then your brokerage will send you proxy voting info.

That’s up to the Cisco board of directors, is it not?

He has already extracted $500 Million from shareholders and employees for himself. Maybe his goal is a billion. If he was paid with stock options instead of guaranteed RSU’s, he would have been motivated to make better decisions and deliver results.

Very possible. Unless they can pry it from his cold, dead hands. Looks like the business stress may do him in just fine.
