Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

How much did you earn last year?

Exxon Mobil Corp and Chevron Corp paid their chief executives more than $22 million each last year, according to securities filings released on Thursday, the day after U.S. lawmakers accused oil companies of price gouging at a time of high gasoline prices.

A lot of people have drank the Kool-aid from executive management and the wealthy over the years. "We should be thankful for what they give us, they are our benevolent caretakers. If you don't like it go to another company that will do the same thing". I bet they are the same people who screamed companies need to be regulated and forced to not require vaccines and masks but now are back to saying a company can do what it wants and set whatever policy they want. You know it doesn't have to be this way look at the freedom employees have elsewhere in the world. We need freedom not "freedom".

I guess he didn’t lay off any Gulfstream pilots. There are dozens in the whitepages listing.

MW is the best CEO in the business if you are a gluten for pain. Our CEO is a layoff addict and seems to grow his happiness through layoffs. If your only approach to growing profits is layoffs then maybe you aren't so great!

Sounds like someone would have enjoyed living in the early 1800s. We all work for the owner and just need to live with anything they toss our way. We should be grateful they give enough to feed and house ourselves.

We have one of the best CEOs running our company. We all work for the shareholders and the sooner we realize that the better. If it’s not what you like then go work at a private company and work for the owner and their family.

With all the h ell he put all the employees through during his transformation all while he took no hit himself while ruining others lives he absolutely should have a salary cut. If anything I bet he would work for 1 dollar just to have the excitement of laying people off.

Is this question for those who were laid off or still have jobs?

Uppermost management, and those coveting such positions, sell their souls to the devil. They focus so much on that goal that the rest of their lives suffer. They can have the money (and the trips to Perth), I'd rather have my family and free weekends.

The total compensation (not just pay) for American CEOs is obscene. It is one of many factors which isolates and separates uppermost management from their day-to-day workers. I don't remember what DOR made, but he made it a point to randomly meet with 'ordinary' employees when he was in Houston, even if it was just for a handshake. Ever seen MW meet with anyone other than his cronies or select high-pots? Ever seen MW run a live Town Hall that wasn't overloaded with diversity candidates and high-pots, all 'asking' scripted questions?

The difference between the lowest paid worker and the ceo of any organization should not be such a huge difference!! No leader is that more important than the average workers!!

What does Jamie Dimon make? It’s all relative. Mike Wirth knows this business up and down and sideways. I saw another comment about his salary. CVX is a 300 plus billion dollar company not 200 billion. You try and run it.

Work 7 days a week travel the world, speak before Congress and lead a company that makes this amount of profits, answer to shareholders and perhaps you'll make that much too. Or just sit around and whine and hope you make a difference. I guess someone will pay you for it. Oh never mind they already pay you to whine I see!

More than I made the year before and that’s how I generally measure my continued success at making a living for my family.

@hna very sophomoric logic. 'Since all the other CEOs are making $22 million, so should I!' That's exactly the logic all the CEOs use. You're not MW posting on The Layoff, are you?

22 million for CEO of a 200 billion market cap company is not too much. For regular salaried people it seems high but most CEOs get that much or higher depending on their company market cap. The world right before 2022 was all about getting g rid of oil and gas and going g green and starved oil industry of any funds for investment and everyone in the Wallstreet was demanding shareholder return, well guess what the demand has gone up after the pandemic is over and there is no extra capacity of production created, with sanctions on Venezuela and Iran in place, the oil price will stay high.

@kvw, I guess you're unaware that most executives, particularly in Chevron, reached their positions through cronyism, favoritism, and being yes-persons rather than innovators. You must be still believing that propaganda they fed you during recruiting.

Executive pay affects you how exactly? Worry about improving yourself, instead of always being jealous of those who have put forth the effort to make something of themselves.
