Thread regarding Ford layoffs

HR called out

Recently HR held some leadership sessions on how to rate and give feedback. Let’s just say the question channel was filled with a repeat theme of “why are we force ranking”. HR reps quickly said that there is no policy of forced ranking. Leaders got so mad at HR and it literally threw off the meeting.

Ford has a mutiny on its hands and the LL6 and LL5 are really fighting back because Waldo’s garbage HR group has been we-ponizing HR to levels not seen here.

Obviously the Integrated Service and Model e leaders are less likely to fight for their staff, but soon they will all be done anyways. We cannot keep paying for b-ms to do nothing.

@q04 After you bring it up, they'll gaslight you and others publicly asking if you're okay, like they're not the perpetrators. They'll make you look 'weird' for bringing it up.

@psr they prey on these young people, they see that you have have talent and they su-k the naivety out of you. All these young souls. We need to be more involved with everything that is going on today. People get away with destroying lives by silencing them through obvious power imbalances. It’s wrong. It’s disgusting. And nobody calls it out. It becomes a joke to laugh about. We’ve lost our souls.

@psr my guess it is the GAO during a normal audit review cycle.

Does anyone know whether there’s still meaningful oversight of HR itself (“HR for HR”) in today's structure?
I’m also curious about investigation timelines. Historically, there were clearer expectations around prompt investigation and fair resolution, largely to avoid prolonged uncertainty and business disruption.
Are there still defined standards or best practices for this, or has it become more open-ended? Interested in hearing how this works in practice today. Is it the OGC or Speak Up today? In the past it was called "HR for HR" in some settings.

@j4 that’s stupid. It’s leadership and hr that does cuts not the other way around. What kind of stupid logic is that!

@h7 the percentages are different for different orgs and teams. 3%?
Some others to 10 and 20%.

@a9 Why doesn't HR do it to themselves? Because that is impossible. Have you ever tried to "DO IT" to yourself?

Yes everyone is being ranked one level below what they deserve by force via "calibration reviews".

Top achievers get lowered to me. And most met get lowerd to inconsistent.
There is a quota that each LL6 has to meet for inconsistent ratings and that's 3 percent. Basically round up to a full person or two per section .
Total sh-tshow

Remember that most of HR was cut years ago. Remember when we had a rep for each department? Not there is on a person per LL2.

They are beyond useless at this point.

I attended that session. Very simple and effective method to determine career advancement. Paper covers rock. Scissors cut paper! BRILLIANT!

In a dysfunctional bureaucracy, it's often the lazy and inept who get promoted instead of being held accountable, while competent and productive employees are pushed out—sacrificed to maintain the status quo and preserve the internal politics of the system.

Better avoid HR they are never here to protect engineers - "easily hired labor and replaceable like winter gloves", they only protect the high positions. The topic is useless to discuss.

OP: this has been going on for years. But, it has gotten worse since JF took the helm. Just ask the folks that worked during Jack the jacuzzi man.

If HR belongs anywhere and is to continue as an entity, it should be folded into legal. We all know that's why they are there anyway.

@aj
IBM created a turn-key HR system, hardware and software, to sell.

Then they axed HR people.

They got replaced...by a chatbot.

Their system is called AskHR, and it runs on IBM’s own AI engine: Watsonx Orchestrate.

  • - 94% of HR work, automated
  • Pay, vacation, paperwork, even terminations
  • $3.5B in “productivity gains”
  • - 40% drop in HR costs

This LL5s and LL6s just moved themselves to the top of the list.

Assimilate or be cut.

The new Ford.

Human Capital Management is a revealing name for the philosophy of how that organization operates.
We are a commodity to be managed not valued.
If I am not let go this year, no chance I will work in 2026.

HR consists of a bunch of Karen's who think they're entitled because they're managements lap dogs.

@OP this is kinda amusing, same thing happened at a GM apm meeting qna where they asked along the lines of ‘how do we navigate stacked ranking causing competition among coworkers and further reluctance of sharing information’, then the senior director explained we don’t have that, and we should not look at it that way, but instead as an opportunity to collaborate more

HR, those ever-loyal lapdogs of management. Always quick to enforce the company's will, never the employees.

It’s almost poetic how the very people who facilitate layoffs and outsourcing might one day find their own roles shipped off overseas.

The irony practically writes itself.

HR just parrots whatever management wants. Their job is to put positive spin on the situation. HR is like living in fantasy land.
