Annual Review: Maxed out, smaller merit increase

Anyone else have their annual review this year and told they were now maxed out in their jobs payscale? As a result, received a smaller merit increase.

Let your level of effort match your raise. After I maxed out, I hit the coast button and pretty much worked part time for $130k a year.

@h7 For real. Once you hit max, you are a prime selection for a layoff. I didn't take another job because my manager assure me that 'I was safe". I was laid off just a couple months later.

@13d sorry you feel this way, however, there is still plenty of opportunity to move within the company. Now, this may mean taking on an entirely different role and/or relocating. It may mean taking on added schooling or courses before being eligible. There is always something out there, you may not like the choices for you, but it's there.

@12m, Thanks Captain Obvious! However, there haven't been any opportunities for advancement since we bought Sprint; and in light of the recent layoffs it doesn't look like there will be an opportunities in the near future. You're a tool.

If you're at the max of the pay scale it's time to discuss next steps with your manager. You would likely want to consider working on moving up into a new roll. Your manager should have been keeping an eye on this during previous merit discussions and help give guidance/suggesting next steps before maxing out. Or at the very least, made you aware of it last year or the year prior. People can also ask where they are in the pay scale.

@jj Tmo was transparent at one point on what the matrix was for pay. Now it’s a circlej--kunless you have a good manager that is open about it.

Being maxed out on a pay scale is a real thing. You can also ask what your pay scale is. It shouldn't be a mystery.

Typically the way around this is, a promotion in to a higher pay band, or a one time bonus along with your corporate bonus

@h5 So churn is up, they are laying people off and they decide execs deserve 100% of their weighted bonuses at 161%? Sounds about right.

Last year I got a 1% raise which they couldn't give me a specific reason why. Come August 12th I was laid off. If you're not getting the pay increase you want, it's time to cast a line and start fishing.

Maxed out on pay also. I got 100% personal bonus the 161% for Corp bonus then I got another bonus since I'm maxed out

I'm sure what they didn't tell you was they readjusted the pay bands downward. Again.

@b6

babe, if you got a big increase, it means you’re making a pittance. They need to catch you up to your peers before you figure out they make way more than you. But nice try, I guess.

So that is why my merit and bonus was higher than normal. All of you humans are not deserving of more money and should be collecting EBT like your baby momma's.

I was told I was maxed out as well; yet when they post openings for my position the pay scale show $12 more than I make and unfortunately there are no opportunities for advancement.

No but i was told my manager didn't record enough so I got a smaller merit increase. My manager was laid off soooo not sure why that's my fault but here we are.

Same! Recieved a "Jelly of the Month membership" instead. A real kick in the shorts. 10+ years with the company! Was told maxed out in my position and need to get promoted or apply for something in a different level. My 3rd role with the organization, so havent been in this role that long.
