Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Why did Ford go woke?

ICE vehicles were perfectly fine and they outright scrapped it in favor for full EV?
what on earth were they thinking?

EVs do not have the range
Nor do we have infrastructure to support it at scale.

Imagine being stuck in Traffic for an emergency evacuation.
will an EV be able to last for several hours in that situation?

now imagine having to recharge during said situation along with 1000s of others.
it takes like an hour or more to fully charge an EV. You'll be stuck for days just trying to get a charge.

With ICE it takes at least 3 minutes to fill up your tank and you are on your way.

Why didn't Ford focus on Hybrids till the infrastructure and battery technology were viable?

I mean really don't get the EV hype.

  1. battery is unreliable and range is affected by temperature.
  2. Little to no charge stations beyond cities.
  3. Fire hazard when charging overnight at your own home
  4. Takes too long to charge.
  5. Terrible for emergency scenarios. A backup generator can power a gas station for a bit because the pumps don't use too much electricity. But to charge multiple EV on a backup generator?

they are firing everybody except for the actual people responsible for the failures.
the company as a whole doesn't even make sense anymore.

I realized that Ford went 100% woke during the pandemic. Let’s not forget vax or you’re put on leave. Ie fired.

It's a long read and a bit slow at times, but well worth the time spent. I'm pretty sure one can find an audiobook version to listen to while driving or otherwise doing something more than just reading.

I’m sure Ford is looking for some “crony capitalism” to save it from the consequences of bad decisions and poor quality.

Want to know how it works? Read Atlas Shrugged.

@gsf That whole “misgendering will now be a felony” stuff was completely false. Makes sense why you believe it though considering the buzzwords in the rest of your post.

You still need to drill for petroleum and refine it even if you have 100% EVs and no vehicles use gasoline…where do you think plastics come from….oh well maybe we should go back to natural fuel sources….hmm what did they use for fuel in the 1840s from the ocean? Maybe ford should look to solve heart disease instead of climate change…who the heck died of climate change.

If Ford doesn’t want me and my ideas, maybe Musk does. We’ll see.

Bill Ford is in Ann Arbor with the environmentalists. He is going to get government subsidies to save the planet. The state of Michigan and Ford Employees are not any better. There was a time when Michigan's governor and Congressional delegation would fight for the auto industry. Now they are Party members who vote 100% with their California based party. It is absurd that a Michigan representative would 100% vote along with California , but Michigan voters don't hold them accountable.

Back when I worked for the EV group, I suggested to management that Ford design the electric vehicles so that a small tow-behind generator trailer could be easily attached for people who occasionally wanted a hybrid. Most of the time using the battery would be adequate, but sometimes, gas powered would be needed.
And, Ford could have sold or rented the generator trailers, another business opportunity.

Of course, the idea was rejected without even serious consideration.

Ford has no vision.

When you see Teslas with tow-behind generators, remember that Ford could have had the idea first.

When the government states that they want to eliminate the sale of ICE vehicles by 2035, that's a big red flag for automakers. If you snooze, you lose. However, Ford went "all in" which made me nervous from then get go. I had hoped they would take a more measured approach (similar to Toyota).

Energy depletion? 😂😂

Plus no one knows the effects of wind and solar. Now scientists are that pumping water from under the earth is shifting the planets axis!

Sorry, but I've been hearing we are at peak oil for decades. And then another huge strike is made. We humans are both egotistical (we can affect the planet so much!) and scared little babies (chicken little "the sky is getting!". That combination is causing to make awful decisions.

Newsflash, the earth will be fine. We do but have the effect on it many claim we do. Besides, environmentalism is rooted in wealth redistribution. That's why the biggest climate activists do not practice what they preach! (See Al Gore as an example.)

Battery as a mobility fuel can be monetized, financialized and wall street won't fall apart. Hydrogen powered ICE presents an almost free fuel that can't be metered (you can make it with a solar panel and a collector).

Energy depletion is the reason. Not like tomorrow we're out of oil. More like the feed stocks are slowly declining, how are we gonna keep the borrowed money, packaged debt obligations tied to "something" that might work.

Batteries are a mess environmentally too. Not scalable - so maybe auto production drops to 50% of what it is today. But hey - London and Wall Street are happy!
