as for the question of VSP. This is not VSP this is a low-performance firing. But when VSP is or was offered, NO you can not come back to GM even as contract for at least 3 years.

You should run the numbers, but enrolling with your spouse will probably be cheaper.

And cobra can only be used for 18 months if you think you might have a hard time finding another job.

Should I get Cobra or enroll in spouse's employer insurance?

We both were under GM insurance before

You can come back as a contractor, over and over with no time limit. As long as you don't burn any bridges and have a great reputation of course.
"Yes, sir! Lovely sweater you have on today sir!'
Things are going well.
It will all be fine.

And then, if you come back to GM after 3 years and one day, & get a por review again, you are banished for another 3 years,

Why would you even come back????

You can't work at GM if you take any severance for 3 years.

Maybe it will drag on for each annual performance cycle but if folks are let go based on 2024 performance, imo, it would have to be done no later than the Cap discussion with your people leader that follows GM’s Q4 earnings release.

Extremely ominous.
Remember, GM claims "safety" now, and fires people when they are away from the office. I work in engineering. They are very upfront in the threat category to the extent that it's implied that if you don't dot a 't' somewhere, you could be on the list. Maybe this is a group being given the 'tow the line' speech in a meeting?

To the op, the panic about next Friday... we have been told endlessly that this was happening. Did you think it would be all on one day? This is going to drag on.
