Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Won’t let us leave

It is so incredibly frustrating that I can’t post out of claims. There was a great job that I wanted to go for but my application was removed because I can’t be released. How do they expect people to stick around if they want let us pursue other careers.

The way I got to out was taking my manager aside and point blank telling her if my application gets pulled or offer rescinded because of staffing then I WILL quit so either claims can lose me or State Farm can, ball is in their court. I’m still working at this shithole, but I got out of my old role. Be firm, know you’re worth, and be ready to walk away if they don’t. Good luck.

They have a funny way of showing they want anyone to stay.

The strong leave. The weak stay behind and whine.

Leaving is easy. Get up....and leave. No need to thank me.

I straight up told my TM if I’m uploading an updated resume it only makes it faster to send out to other companies.

So I did that, and also applied for 3 careers in the mean time, took me about an hour and a half and scored a response with an interview the next day literally.

It really is disheartening. This place used to be all about advancement. That’s gone by the wayside ever since Future State. I feel like they’ve had a hold on injury folks for at least 3 years.

When are you all going to learn? This is not a place to have a career anymore. Gone are the days of “moving on up.” This is a place for a paycheck and nothing more. I would suggest you start looking for opportunities elsewhere if you ever want to grow.

On the bright side, they really appreciate all you do and thank you for being there for the customers.

I've told everyone:: Once they think they are smarter, think you should be happy you have a job, say it's a business decision, consider you kids or minions, consider you replaceable and display an elitist behavior: THEY LOST OR WILL LOSE IN DUE TIME. Every business management textbook from Peter Drucker (in the 80s) to present have proven those mgmt behaviors lead to failure. Be patient....

"Just be happy you have a job" the new SF hiring motto. Man I bet they get top tier talent with this kind of mentality.

Why do you overvalue your skills? Be happy you have insurance and a paycheck.

There should have been full disclosure to internal employees regarding the Claims Department. I thought I would be in Claims for a year or so until I was ready to leave. I too was shocked to find an email from personnel that Claims isn't allowing anyone to post out. Let alone the unrealistic metrics%

@gbf+1b0HsPma I also do have 663k in an investment account also if you want to be a smart a-s.

I do agree it’s not a career it’s just a d-mb easy job for benefits to get you by.

A career is having people actually train to know what they are doing. This ain’t it.

Just keep in mind the technological fantasy envisioned is just that. Much like the people of the 1950s assumed travel would be by space port and hover car by the 1980s.

You've all see how wonderfully the technology works, or how a one sized fits all approach to complicated claim scenarios work? Right? It doesnt.

These are people going through catastrophes, they are stressed and emotional. They want a human to make it all right and guide them.

The insurance company that figures this out, and acts on it first, is going to be the next state farm, the ironic thing was, it was the old SF that did exactly this.

Eventually these companies who seem hellbent on the destruction of their company will realize that its the people who give those companies value, and nothing more, and its not the guy at top that matters, its the workerbees that make great companies.

Funny! Enjoys their job and could be stay at home with wife being bread winner. Doesn't that subtlety tell you how claims/operations IS NOT a career. Pay attention. That's how they roll.

Weird, my manager has been trying to post me out of claims for quite some time now. Not to sound lazy or a PoS I enjoy my job because I focus on the customer. My wife is bread winning and I could be a stay at home dude if I wanted to.

Really wish you were in my shoes, more responsibilities and more people to hate and rely on me internally isn’t much of a step up even if there is more pay.

I’m scared at this rate with my resume it will be volunforced into some sort of analyst position as from my experience with previous employers. Than you’re stuck wondering what year you’ll be laid off.

Don't know if this makes you feel any better but stop thinking about SF as a career. Its not! Employees/staffing is just a means to the end at this point. We are outsourcing everything we can because people are just temporary to keep the wheels on while they get Ai/Automation rolled out Lower's expenses-less severance, raises, relo, promotions etc...you get it! SF has eliminated almost 25k jobs in the last 10 years and still counting. Outsourcing- 1000s of ECR, CCC is outsourcing most jobs, Systems and Fire/Auto/Estimatics is outsourcing...and on and on! Go look at Allstate's board...they are moving claim stuff to India. If you have been to a hub and walked the floor and see the type of people they have hired..SF is finding the lowest cost disposable labor force they can. If SF could pay Chinese kids a bowl of rice, $2 a day, and have them sleep under their desk they would!!!!! Please read the writing on the wall so you don't get caught with your pants down or disappointed.

Shared with all employees if you didn't get to discuss!

"Claims processing in 2030 remains a primary function of carriers, but more than half of claims activities have been replaced by automation. Advanced algorithms handle initial claims routing, increasing efficiency and accuracy. Claims for personal lines and small-business insurance are largely automated, enabling carriers to achieve straight-through processing rates of more than 90 percent and dramatically reducing claims processing times from days to hours or minutes."

Sorry the need higher attrition, and their new hires off the street will likely start the role at a lower salary than you so theyll take em, no pesky pension to fund either.
