This Isn’t Accountability,,,,It’s a Cop-Out

Leadership keeps repeating it like a shield: “We’re taking accountability.”
But come on, we all see what’s really happening.

This isn’t accountability.
This is performance.
This is corporate theater, and we’re exhausted watching the same act play out again and again.

Real accountability means you stand in front of your people not behind consultants.
It means you roll up your sleeves, listen, take the hits, and fix what’s broken.
It means you lead. You sacrifice. You own it.

But instead? You hand off the work.
You hand off the responsibility.
You hand off the consequences but you keep the power, the bonuses, and the titles.

You brought in BCG. Spent millions. Millions on outsiders to figure out what’s broken.
Not because they know us better.
Not because they care more.
But because you didn’t want to do the hard part yourselves.

Let’s call it what it is:

“We’re bringing in experts” really means
“We don’t want to make the tough calls. And if this goes to he-l, we’ll blame them.”

That’s not leadership. That’s hiding.
That’s cowardice in a suit.

We the people who actually keep this place alive aren’t scared of change.
We’re not afraid to work harder, dig deeper, or evolve.

But what we are tired of…
...is being treated like numbers on a spreadsheet.
...is watching decisions be made in rooms we’re never allowed into.
...is hearing the word “accountability” while the people in charge refuse to actually be accountable for anything.

So here’s the truth:
Don’t just say you’re accountable.
Prove it.

Stop hiding behind consultants.
Stop deflecting.
Stop cashing the checks while pretending this is leadership.

Either step up or step aside.

Because if you’re not willing to actually lead…
Then what the he-l are you doing here?
And how do you sleep at night knowing who’s paying the price?

@g3 that is too much to ask when CHRO had one of the most over inflated areas and worst CES scores. If your own house is a mess how can you lead a neighborhood?

If overhiring is one of the reasons for reimagined, wouldn’t the accountability fall on the CHRO to have a workforce strategy that works? PP is ultimately responsible but what about McDaniel and her HC leaders that should have the right strategy in place to guide the firm into the future? Is everyone at sleep at the wheel collecting a big fat check?

Can’t believe she crushed 100 years of EJ culture so fast. Let’s see how she does trying to keep under paid, over worked associates at a firm with no culture.

Making hard calls? That’s leadership.
Corporate gaslighting? That isn’t.

Many of us could have handled some hard decisions but this gaslighting is too much. “Enterprise Reimagined”, come on.

Absolutely correct. My function is being led by a GP that took her people through 6 reorgs and co led by a GP that still don’t know what the work is. He threw his direct report GP under the bus to save himself. Worst leadership I’ve ever seen. Yet they claim they know the people and the work to design the new org. God help us.

@OP. I'm in a department where 5 people are leaving and won't be around by end of December. Leaders have know clue on the job the associates are doing and need to be told.

Quite pathetic if you ask me. I hate to say it "I'm going to be excited to see some leaders be fired."

Across the board we have some associates/ leaders who haven't a clue.... and yet their the ones who will end up staying. SMH
