Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Make yourself marketable

Find time to expand your skills, take advantage of any training Cisco offers, and look for other ways to strengthen your resume - all on Cisco’s time. Hard work doesn’t pay off here, so stop wasting energy trying to impress a manager who will only reward you with more work. Instead, focus on securing your future. Build your skill set, position yourself for better opportunities, and once you do, layoffs won’t scare you. The best safety net isn’t loyalty - it’s knowing you’re in demand.

I'm with you on this one. My daughter is very good in maths and here in Ireland, they are doing their best to motivate kids, especially girls, to pursue education and career in tech sector.
I did my best to counter any of that propaganda, and so far my daughter hasn't bought into it.
It may be a good career path in the 3rd world countries, but in developed countries - no way. It used to be good, but now it is just plain wrong.

IT is BS and I’ve thought that for a while now but I’m too late in career to change course. Glad I made my career and money in tech whilst it lasted, and for a while was fun and enjoyable. It is none of those things these days, it is very stressful. I would not advise my kids to take up this cut throat career and especially in commoditized areas like networking.

Hard work will get you a job at KFC making chicken, right now.

The technology job market it cooked. Overdone. Enjoy your time here, what portion of the job can be stomached.

Once this party is over, good luck with continuing in tech work.
