Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Micron and Chips act moving forward.

Finally, GF employees can in NY/Vermont may soon have some options and leverage. GF not looking like it’s in the game for Chips Act funding. In fact, GF is reducing its manufacturing footprint in NY. Sold Fishkill Fab and laid off in Malta and Vermont. Not looking good.

Yea it’s a tu-d of a deal polished to look good and shiny and flashy. I mean really if you think about it it’s saying GM went to lowest bidder to make the cheapest quality part. And that is what Globalfoundries is. We are the dollar store of chips. The knockoff offbrand .

Not an exclusive supply agreement. Also, we are talking low tech- legacy chips. Meh.

Fill the fabs with application specific standard parts from general motors. Long term partner.

@ 1lah+1l2ZsjqN You’re point (if there is one) is moot. People who are being laid off are employees until March. As far as employers are concerned, the candidate is looking to better their career. Now go back to downvoting and leave the conversation to the adults.

It was suppose to be new variant of 22 that came over from Germany but who the he-l knows now. Our managers and leadership have no clue what they are doing

I was hired rather quickly after the lay off. The reality is, the job market is very active. Interviewed with multiple companies and no one asked any of those questions. Also, I am a GF employee until mid March, so there was no need to disclose your exiting or “unemployed”. Good luck 👍

If I was a hiring manager for Micron in NY I would need three statements.
You failed at GF, correct ?
You failed at IBM, correct ?
Why would I want to hire you ?

GF is a stain on your resume and you really need to be ready for some hard questions.
The reply of I was just doing my job will not cut it anymore.

GF has no future and it is really weird atmosphere currently in GF. I am really stressed and doing everything to get out from this stress environment with no light at end of tunnel. Everyone is worried except those a-s lickers sitting in management. Really weird

The real problem for GF is even if they did get Chips Bill funding and built fab 8.2, what would they fill it with? The development budget has been cut so much that the portfolio of new techs needed to fill such a new fab doesn't exist. The future is very dark at GF without the right technology portfolio investments which certainly didn't happen in 2022 and are not happening again in 2023.
