Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Streaming cuts/performance reviews?

Restructuring is coming (allegedly,) but leadership is radio silent or shrugs while pushing performance reviews. Which teams/roles are most at risk? Is TR staying for the p+/pluto tech convergence, what about VH?

It’s frustrating to piece together intel from this board and trade leaks while the company sticks to total opacity. Past layoffs seemed arbitrary. are they using perf reviews as the benchmark, or is this just optics to keep us busy/hopeful? How are others coping?

@a5 Do you think there's any chance that the channels under the Showtime brand will be broken up and sold off, individually?

@fh they are guessing but it’s probably a good guess.

@ag

Are you just guessing or you know?

Performance reviews don’t determine how many layoffs there will be BUT you are given a number to meet. If you can fill that with bad performers you will. If you need to fire your whole or most of your team to meet the number then yes, perf reviews are irrelevant.

This time around, linear will experience more cuts than streaming.

Performance reviews have never mattered in regards to layoffs. More than ever they are completely ridiculous. It’s also impossible to know for sure where the cuts will come from, as the obvious answer seems the cable nets, but the big question mark is what is happening to the cable nets, period.
