Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Those who worked on FNV4

Will be cut heavily over the course of the next month. Just too many people and that project is dead so the weight will be cut.
LL4s and LL5s shared with us this morning that cuts will be made gradually starting in August and will be focused on the former FNV4 teams as they have nothing to contribute now.
Scary times.

@a6
FNV4 was supposed to be an in-house Electrical Architecture that the next generation of Ford/Lincoln BEVs would be using. It was meant to decrease the number of modules needed in each vehicle while at the same time streamlining communication and efficiency of those modules and the features that they control.

@d8

You'd think they test this stuff before they push it over the air.

@fd So true. The politics as well - teams fighting to own the features, blaming others when things didn’t go well. I am not surprised at all that it failed, just that LLs took way longer to pull the plug

@aq how many people were forced to retire?

Best of luck to everyone. This has been a rough ride. I’ll be glad to see some accountability especially from the FNV4 LL4s and a few LL5s, who bear a large share of the blame. The other half? That’s on Doggy. Fear to point a finger ??? Can't really speak up there !

The FNV4 process was a total mess, yet the very people who created it were promoted along with LL4s and LL5s at the expense of continuous layoffs and a revolving door of fresh replacements. No clear deadlines, PRs, deliverables, or milestones. Just constant expansion with no finish line in sight. Those who went the extra mile were let go first. That’s the truth no one wants to say out loud.

It was a dead end from the beginning. Apple-style development doesn’t work for vehicles, and Intel’s CPU model doesn’t apply either. Choosing AUTOSAR Classic for such a complex system was a strategic failure, it should have been Adaptive, led by people who actually knew what they were doing.

But hey, Ford stock is up again!

Sure...I guess that's all you had to say.

@a9 Really? After DF waste 8-10 Billions on FNV4 and realizing it is not working? He is really smart man. We all know FNV4 is not going anywhere about 2 years ago. It was point where there was no way to launch it. DF is actually fully responsible for this mess. But he has job and making millions.

@ae And then adding back via Over the Air update on MachE and Lightning. It was disaster. They updated SYNC before Audio unit. This resulted in AM button on SYNC screen but not functional. Even the Dealer service procedure was messed up. Service procedure updated the software but missed the AM configuration change on Audio Head Unit.

Makes sense since the FNV4 team was not touched in the last round.

FNV3.x is small and doesn't require a team of the size that worked on FNV4

This means SERIOUS JOB CUTS

@OP

Absolutely zero context. Total gas lighting. Why would LL4 and 5 share this with you? Maybe you are special...and I dont mean privileged. Maybe this is what you wish for, to be included in these phantom conversations. But you're not, so you have to dream about it.

A number of people from Integrated Services have been laid off or forced to retire. Announcements are coming all over.

Op is gaslighting. Fnv4 folks already work on fnv3.x.

@a9 DF is the reason it failed. Remember the AM radio delete. Fail

Most will disagree with your statement. DF was the one who made the tough choice to issue a stop work on FNV4 as he identified that it would not deliver on its goals. Thus he saved the company money from further sunk costs into FNV4.

But yet....'they' claim to be moving forward with the CATL battery plant and still focusing on the EV market. So what is it?

I actually respect them for giving us the heads up this early. It allows time for resume preparation and reduces the shock when the cuts are made next month.

Yeah this is the quiet part that is now being leaked. It's unfortunate but not at all unexpected.
I cannot understand how anyone could be surprised by this.
