Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Manager getting more money will analyst get nothing

Another classic example of how State Farm has turned into a cold heartless company. Manager will now be getting bigger bonuses for doing nothing. Yes, three levels of managers. Those that kiss but and fake it will be paid in bonus money like directors for doing nothing.

Meanwhile the people doing all the work get nothing.

Classic. I guess I go into management so I don't have to do anything but talk and throw people under the bus and ignore poor performers, not hold people accountable, talk and do nothing, and get a FAT bonus.

Here some more money to do the job you are supposed to be doing. Because you aren't doing it today, we'll make up three new job titles and pay you more to do what you are supposed to be doing.

Do analysts actually DO anything helpful though? They don’t seem to be helping billing much.

@3zmo-as an elderly retiree that hasn’t worked at SF for nearly a decade how do you come with such incredible wisdom? It is just so helpful.

Always remember they give you nothing and look down on those who do the work.

God i wish my biggest issue was my manager making more money than me. Get a role in claims or underwriting phones. You will run back to the cushy analyst role fast enough to make your head spin

It feels like for every productive worker there’s at least three (or more even) whose job is nothing but supervising, critiquing, watching their screens, listening to their calls, combing through what you did or didn’t do, and controlling the workers that are actually doing the core work of an insurance company (i.e. claims, underwriting). These jobs are BS and the more of them there are around, the more frustrating and impossible it is for highly stressed overworked claims employees to accept this kind of thing anymore. We can do without these people “studying” the workers who are actual individual contributors that do the real and most important service work.

Maybe different with analysts, however, TM's or managers in claims/underwriting/support roles are nothing more than over glorified babysitters, most with ZERO managerial training and background. This company could solve so much getting rid of half of them, and actually hiring managers. Don't get me wrong, many are nice people, but ive never once felt actually supported by one in any way, and its all talking about petty issues, "missing the big picture" metrics reviews, and just megaphoning whatever the executives want us to hear/think. Managers waste my time, don't support, are never knowledgeable about my role, and its sometimes offensive to have someone telling an adult what words to say on the phone, especially if you cant do the work yourself.

The last period of vulgar self-interest was during the American 1920s, prior to Black Tuesday and the onset of the Great Depression. Ugh.

State Farm could lose most analyst and just function fine. How about starting answering a phone and helping customers.
