@exk just as well they don’t provide a mobile charger as it is rendered useless for travel by the cr-ppy Ford charging app.
What genius decided that before you charge at a physical location it first has to be registered to the Ford charging app? And what genius decided to not do real time registrations, but rather to collect all the registrations in a file and do a batch registration once a day? Could it be the same genius who “designed” the platform in a manner that the stability and performance is laughable?
No you don’t get a gas pump/ handle with ICE but you do get a vehicle that can be “recharged” in less than 5 minutes wherever you are. Where Ford EV requires a 24 hour lag time to begin charging with mobile charger, followed by hour(s) of actual charging. So a family road trip going from bed and breakfast to bed and breakfast becomes the trip from he-l, where mom and dad are so preoccupied with trying to keep the EV charged that they have zero fun/relaxation.
Guess Ford EV are only for driving around close to home and returning to home base every night. Oh but we aren’t suppose to park Ford EV in our garage. Home insurance won’t cover Ford fires.
Not terribly surprising that it's not included. Many install home chargers that are permanently installed so they have no use for the mobile chargers.
That's a good way of splitting the lawsuit when the car goes up in flames from the battery. Wink, wink!
Well you don't get a gas pump handle/ hose when you buy an ICE vehicle........
Can't help but wonder, with all this stuff slowly getting more popular if the DIYer will just head over to Hime Depot or Lowers and buy the bits minus the car side plug for a fraction of the cost... Ought to make for some spectacular "situations" that could make EV charging news in a pretty negative way. I know the models and options folks are following the leader on this, but the unintended consequences are probably not worth it.
A big part of this deal with Teala is the charging cable / connector.
Presently, most OEMs - including Ford, use one kind of cable. Tesla uses a different one. There is a battle slowly building to determine which cable will 'win' and become the standard.
Until now, it seemed like Tesla would just remain a unique outlier in the cable battle. The deal with Ford includes Ford changing over to the Tesla cable. It will be interesting to see if other OEMs convert to the Tesla cable.
I wonder if Ford is going to offer any $$ support to customers who bought their EVs with the current style cables - and maybe even had chargers installed on their garages - or if Ford will just leave them high and dry...
Just buy the Tesla and everything will be easier.
