Or if not, then it means they want employees to sweat and stress and feel lucky to have a job

poster talking about fantasy island is correct.. Citi does not care that they let people go a few days before Thanksgiving. You are just a number and they don't care. I know its terribly insulting, I felt the same way, was bitter, still am a bit as I tell EVERYONE, do not do business with Citi in any capacity. My family cancelled everything with them as soon as I told them I got laid off. They are losing money, they are very corrupt in their dealings and need gone. I hope nothing for the worst for that SH*&^% COMPANY. Take your package and run. I got out of corporate corrupt America and am much happier, it was hard at first but believe me its better. Just a little advice. I just got through telling this to the last few people I knew at Citi who just got the ax. Hang in there!!
To the original poster, you're dreaming on fantasy island. This must be your first job out of college. Citi and employers are cold, callous, cruel, brutal and have No soul. They will lay off and fire people whenever. Even when they employees are on medical leave, vacation or just before a holiday. As we've all seen and experienced it, Citi laid-off thousands on Monday November 20 just before the Thanksgiving Holiday and one month before Christmas. Citi told employees "Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and F-You"!!!
On the contrary, this is going to be the new norm for big banks.
Did you know that your job is never safe? Welcome to corporate. Stay awhile, or maybe not... you'll find out end of quarter.
Jane Fraser has already made clear that it won't be "over" until end of 1Q, most likely. Also, it depends on where you are in the organization. If you are truly in sr mgmt, you found out today (but I personally think there is still scope to lose a few of those roles next year). Putting that to the side for a second....If you're mid-level, you will not know for another 8 weeks or so. This is life for a lot of us -- soz.
@ewu, is correct. Layoffs are happening everywhere and in different industries. Small and large. The posts from some of you indicates to me that you've probably been working here for years and do not know how companies organize Layoffs.
No, this will not be totally done with after early next year. No, Citi is not the only corporation having Layoffs. Yes, corporations have layoffs, and they do not tell you who or when it will happen. You're often blindsided and sometimes the writing is on the wall.
It's not just banking/ finance going through this.
The only thing I can suggest is retirement or starting your own business to truly 💯 avoid a layoff. Those are facts.
You left off the most common poster. Fear mongering trolls. Posting ridiculous conspiracy theories.
Citi is keeping workers in the dark so hopefully more employees will keep each other informed here.
There a few types of posters:
- HR trolls spying
- HR trolls promoting Jane’s PR disinformation
- Ex employees
- Current employees
- Outsiders
You realize there are layoffs every year, right? Not with the press these are getting, but there are always smaller reorgs and layoffs happening in different groups.
