Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Why does HR receive so much flak?

I see a lot of posts criticizing HR here, but it's not clear why the posters are being critical. The posts are like "get rid of HR", but mostly without cause or reason. Without getting too specific, why?

After it was said it appeared in emails all over the place for a week or so. HR too was saying it….. it was/is a lie

But in that moment when it gave many comfort HR milked the sh-t out of it

Reminded of this in newer post.

Remember at the beginning of Covid the whole “we will enter this together and we will leave this all together?”

Annnddd that was a lie!

That is why HR gets flak!

I don’t know about you, HR, but I love getting the automated response that a HR representative will reply back in 7-10 business days. Complete and utter nonsense that there is a 7-10 day reply timeline. Should be within 24 hours, and then again, you are worthless, anyway, when you do respond,
sometimes after many attempts.

The few times I had to interact with HR, I came out worse off then when I went in. At one point I actually had to copy the director on an email just so the rep would be forced to respond. Pathetic at best.

I just reminded something else fishy. Or a behavior I have seen.

I was reminded because I saw a post for smts job opening. Now orginally I applied for smts and got it. Only to be knocked one level down during final negotiations. I was told no big deal you will get back to smts in a year. It’s been 4 now. I have spoken to others and they have had the same experience. Got the job listed at higher level only to be bumped down in final stages. I know over 8 people who have also experienced this.

It’s shady. But you don’t notice or think about it until you hear about others who experienced and went through the same exact thing….

Come on HR… we see you

They let major abuse slide. A guy was yelling at employees DAILY for 2 years and wasn't fired, he only left (on his terms!) when his sponsor left due to the change of clique in power.

Se-ual harrassment goes unreported because people don't believe they will take action

Everyone's OPT extension got screwed up in 2020 due to a "clerical error" and people had to self deport to India right into Delta spike. Some people are still stuck overseas almost 2 years later

They also invented a policy to upcharge $100 a months for spouse's health insurance if they are eligible for their own

These are just examples from the top of my head

Excellent observation.

Do a comparison and the vast majority of HR in other companies do NOT get much flak on social media sites.

Most of this flak falls on the NY Malta site ( same site where the chief comes ) despite GF having a global footprint.

So the question is what is the HR of GF doing so differently that is so controversial.

I think OP is a troll and @jva just points out that people are misdirecting their criticism

@ibu is right. This is a stupid post and question. And the rebuttals in defense of HR are even worse and child like logic.

Spend 30 minutes reading through all the different threads and posts and this question will be answered

From reading the posts this person has 10 years with GF but hasn't held a real job.

@1hkt in my offer from TSMC there were non-compete and no poaching clauses. Also vague language on clawback that makes for awkward discussions with the recruiter and hiring manager. I declined for other reasons, but it seems par for the course. Of course the legality in Arizona is probably different.

Look @jva+1h8BbQRW & @OP+1h8BbQRW

All the examples and your counter points …. Aren’t normal! It is indicative a systemic problem. Globalfoundries and the practices of the HR department aren’t normal by industry standards by any means. Is it legal? Sure. Are they allowed to do this ? Yes they are. Do other companies do them? Sure, Yes but not to the rampant degree GLOBALFOUNDRIES HR does them.

At the end of day you do not see the levels of misleading with the HRs of Samsung, Intel, ibm, tsmc etc. What makes it worse is while they are totally permitted and legal allowed-the HR department goes out of their way to cover it up or hide/disguise what’s really going on….why? Because they know it’s shady lies and mistruths.

So again how could you not point out GLOBALFOUNDRIES HR as being nefarious?

@jva

So what you're saying in such a arrogant manner is that you've worked for HR these past ten years?

@tjw driving out through action or inaction? I think it's the latter, but not even sure if it's entirely HR's fault. You heard it during the GC, they've drawn the line on compensation. To me this isn't HR, but other higher ups hedging that some event like a recession will put a stop to the "great resignation" and limit everyone's opportunities. Other similar bets didn't pay off. Again I doubt HR is so incompetent that they take action almost a year too late. They probably tried and met resistance.

@ibu you know legal approves things like this right? Regardless of whether it's right or not there's complicity with other teams. I don't believe the goodbye note thing, considering I've been getting them regularly over the past year. He said/she said.

@exf (US-specific) you know they outsource this to an independent law firm, right?

@psn you mean the resource groups? do they bother you? Also, I've never had issues with AskPayroll, AskBenefits or AskHR.

@ewi I've been with GF for more than 10 years. Ups and downs. My experience with HR varies, but my opinion still leans positive. This goes for any other team I deal with at GF. Only difference is there's no go-to person in HR since things seem to change a lot. You know how some teams you deal with have like 5 people on shift, but maybe 1-2 are competent, and you always ping them? I feel like it's the same

How about dropping your 24/7 woke campaign. You can never be found, or will never reply when an issue arises, but you are always there for cute PR wokeness photo ops.

How many foreign employees have you gotten deported due to your bungling, or inaction on their green card documentation?

Is this a serious question? Read through the posts.

There are many examples of specific HR actions.

Just yesterday a post about how HR keep legally inactionable forms and language in their content to scare and Intimidate employees. Despite full on knowing these forms are not legally binding. But they will scare employees.

Or

How they ask leaving employees not to send farewell notes??

Come on

Those 2 examples are enough to give “flak”

Well HR, it's because you're so utterly clueless and blind to what you're doing to drive out our workforce.

And just when you think you've got it figured out, you double down and make things worse.

You're all a bunch of sycophantic frauds who cozy up to the right people to get your mandatory HR yearly promotion.
