Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

RTO Questions

How long until RTO is 5 days a week?
Are IP addresses really being monitered?
Percentage of people in the office for 8 hour days?
What will be the penalty for management whose team isn’t abiding by the policy change?

We (someone in surgical) asked in a town hall if the executives would share THEIR RTO dashboard every month, to show they are accountable, and the meeting moderators deleted the question lmao.

In another meeting with the same leaders, the moderator was like “I bet if they turned off their fancy backgrounds they would be in the office!” And literally NONE OF THEM TURNED IT OFF lmaooo. Absolute CLOWN behavior

My guess is RTO 5 days a week will start next year. By that time, the job market will be so bad, people will be desperate enough to accept 5 days in the office with no complaints.

It’s like pre-Covid times. Eventually we have to go back 5-6 days of work.

I think the reality of the RTO is finally hitting home with our 25-35 yr olds , friday is NOT a WFH option any more. M-TH only in some groups .... oh well, summer will be over soon.

@je

If you won’t, Medtronic will find someone who will work 12+ hours a day.

@f2 millennials/gen z need to learn how to pickup a bloody phone. I can’t tell you how many times a problem would have been quickly resolved by talking to someone rather than sending a teams message/email.

Especially when dealing with external vendors/suppliers. Suggesting to a recent college grad that they call the number listed in the manual for customer support often results in a stare like you’re crazy, and when they finally do it after the 2nd day of trying to solve a problem and the 3rd suggestion to call (not email) and their problem gets solved in a 3 minute chat they’ll look at you like you’re some kind of sensai…

Actual humans are still faster/more efficient than AI when they actually speak (in person, on the phone). However this next gen doesn’t feel comfortable doing that.

One thing I plan to do is never take my laptop home and as a result I won’t do any work off hours or at home. Basically Medtronic can’t have it both ways, so from now on I only do work at work.

@ew not trying to be mean but the boomers need to accept their time is over vs continuing to hope we go back to fax machines and dial phones. My advice is retire while you are still young enough to spend some of your retirement savings on things outside of healthcare.

@be saying that 5 days per week is the standard is the most boomer thing to say. It’s like saying “because we’ve always done it this way”. When teams are around the country and around the world, why are Teams meetings online at the office more productive than Teams meetings from home? Medtronic is too big and spread out to have the whole project team in the room at the same time.

they are already tracking ip addresses and swipes believe me. Full RTO will be here and there will be no sympathy because it was the norm before V1d came around so we are all back to normal now

@be

Harsh truths. The job market right now is trash. Large companies like Medtronic can be selective on who to hire.

My guess is MDT is aware of all the RTO tricks.

  1. drive by swipes, out by 11 or 12pm

2, 5 days in office is a standard work week.. SMH at people not understanding this fact.

  1. a Sept/Oct RIF just for non RTO or play bye the rules of RTO folks.
  2. This RTO is real, not to be taken lightly.

IMHO only I have no knowledge of 1-4 above , just what I think will happen.

Yes, eventually RTO will be 5 days especially when they want more people to quit.

Yes, our IP address will be track to make sure we’re in the office.

Management will be reprimanded if they don’t enforce the RTO mandate. If not, they will be replaced with a boot li---r.
