Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

Today is the day!

Good luck! If you are one of the unfortunate people please tell us what organization you are from. Maybe severance details? This will help others ensure they get something competitive.

Any layoffs heard or planned for PLUTO TV.
The managers here did a great job of not over hiring anyone which has lead to safety of jobs .

What happened to PTV?

Yesterday Monday we had an unplanned, last minute meeting (Monday's there are usually no meetings) with our immediate manager, and it was to let us know that now we're all on-call, and were instructed to download PagerDuty onto our personal mobile devices in case there are P+ streaming issues. I was confused by the timing of this. Is it meant to put us more on edge? They're acting as if nothing is going on, or that nothing will happen in September affect IT in P+. These ppl are tone deaf and have no clue how to run an organization. From here until September I'll be focusing on a job search. It'd be nice to get a new a job just as getting laid off from P+. This way I get double the salary.

No the 5 minute meeting was to let the department know HR will be in touch with anyone impacted. Now for the classic 'wait and see'

Which marketing division with 168 people and the meeting is with HR? Given the time this must be NYC?

Last Jan when they had an all staff meeting scheduled for 30 minutes- it was 5 mins long and it was only to alert folks that layoffs were about to begin… it was cruel and left everyone on edge, anxiously awaiting for the rug to be pulled out under them.

I hope everyone empowers themselves to call out the bullsh-t. Don’t forget the 3 CEO’s are banking millions- and isn’t it ironic, their jobs aren’t considered redundant?

not to spread false hope, but I wonder - if you have a meeting scheduled with a large number of staffers for later on in the day, it could be one of those "we are sure you heard...we wanted to group all of you together to let you know your safe. unfortunately, we had to let some of our dept go earlier and they have been notified already." I know back in Feb some depts were kindly told in the afternoon that they were safe..for now. other managers/depts decided (or didnt think to) do it, so many employees were left wondering.

Streaming is getting major cuts in September but also continuing on with PI planning in early September as though nothing is happening??? Another display of mismanagement.

So let me get this straight we’re,

  • Acting as though nothing is wrong to save face
  • Agreeing to take on Q4 Feature work that we may no longer have the staffing for once Q4 arrives
  • Wasting hours spinning wheels on things that will likely have to be reassessed

Not the greatest use of the current resources and a slap in the face for anyone who will survive and have to redo the work/planning post-cuts.

Our entire marketing dept has a meeting with HR in a few hours, but it’s with like 168 staff members. Not sure what the strategy is here. Ugh.

Legal here. Laid off before I even start my work day. Checked my email and had a zoom invite. HR is supposed to contact me in the next hour or so -- we'll see. And of course, it'll be automated. Great.

I suspect that there is a corporate psychological tactic to doing it like this in phases and stretching it out. Could prompt people to exit on their own, thereby saving severance funds. Cruel no matter how you look at it. And of course how great that insurance is tied to employment. America, best around.

Which brings me to this tip: those who get cut today and use the insurance plans, make all your doc and dentist appointments asap. If your doc says it’ll be awhile to get an appt, explain the situation. If you survive this round, stay on top of your care.

September will be mostly Tech and Streaming so if you are not in those areas you should be ok. If you are then I am sorry. No meetings for me today but I know people who have them scheduled. I'm sick to my stomach.

In response to doing “zero work today” that’s another reason why this staggered approach is misguided. How many of us are doing just enough to get by or shifting major projects until late September? Why am I wasting my time and energy if I’m on the cut list?

The morale has been sh-t, everyone knows what is eventually happening, just rip the bandaid off and get it over with so those still employed can move on.

Hopefully Ellison has his way with the co-CEOs, I’m tired of seeing blocks of Ridiculousness. These guys are a bunch of these hacks.

Finance appears to be getting hit very hard. Crazy. Getting rid of 2 CEOs could have saved 30 jobs.

if you were sent a meeting request for later today and not right at the top of your day, i'd do zero work today. F that. remember that brighter days are ahead.

It was done in waves because some areas needed more time to identify people. These same areas were also hit hard in February.

It might be better for everybody, to rip the bandage and do it all at once. The morale and productivity are going to be really low until it is done.

Yea next cut date is 9/24 and I am interested to see what the 10% after that is. The lists for the 90% have been done since 7/31. Sad times at a once great company. Do we really need 3 CEOs?

The email from the CEO's has gone out. Three phases starting today with 90% of these "actions" being done by 9/30/2024.

A sad day for a once glorious company.

Good Luck to everyone.
