Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Don't let high expectations lead you to disappointment

If I could give a piece of advice now that I'm leaving feeling like I just wasted a few years here, it would definitely be to not expect too much from GF. Those who expect a great career, maybe it's better to start sending resumes to other companies right away.

Please let us understand one thing. I know we may not like to hear but most of talent has already left GF. What we are left with is bunch of incompetent, political and failed individuals who know how their connections and boot licking can save their job even if they continue to not deliver. Any talented experience individual if staying in GF is staying because of their very own personal requirements that they can not get anywhere else. I myself staying in GF because I really need work remote due to my travel needs outside country due to family conditions. I am planning to leave as soon as my requirement and accommodation is denied. I know many of us are staying in GF even if their is no hope, career or growth.

Well yea - when we have been out right lied too, misled and gas light. How many of us on here were told “not this year but next”? And when that times comes it’s “give it another year.”

So yea when I am told or promised something I expect people to keep their word and keep up their end of bargain.

Unfortunately those with the skills and knowledge are not rewarded, they instead work for substandard loud incompetent decision makers. I'm still here but no longer fight uninformed managers who make decisions without data. Now I just say sure, ok and comply. My life and raises are better for it. The company, not so much.

It's always someone else's fault, right?

Well said. I too feel like I have waisted a solid 5 years here. I go above and beyond and achieve better than expected results year in and year out but never get true formal recognition for it. I actively participate in career growth and development activities and training etc. Sure my manager and his manager see it and praise me, but I never get promoted or a significant raise. Then others get promoted lightening fast for really no apparent reason and without the qualifications or credentials that I have accumulated. The logic of career development and trajectory is illogical at Globalfoundries. It is a lot of nepotism like behavior. I am leaving soon hopefully, but looking at my time at GF I am embarrassed. I imagine somewhere else I would be much further long or a more advanced position. And it depresses me.
