Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

You gotta move on

I get the attachment to oil work, I really do. The pay's good, the culture's familiar, and it's all some of us have known. But clinging to an industry that's clearly shrinking isn't loyalty, it's self-sabotage. I've watched too many guys spend years unemployed, waiting for that callback from ConocoPhillips that never comes. Meanwhile, the smart ones pivoted - some to renewable energy, some to completely different trades. It wasn't easy, I assume, but neither was breaking into oil back in the day. The difference is now you've got experience and transferable skills. That rig knowledge could apply to wind turbines, those safety certifications are valued in manufacturing and so on. Stop defining yourself by one industry and start seeing what else your skills can do. Pride doesn't pay the mortgage.

You gotta move on? So you’re telling others to quit, but you’re still at Exxon? Why haven’t you moved on?

Move on to what ? The big wigs have already paid treasonous donnie-demonic to go about turning ALL of the soon to be fully nonexistent US into the worthless Shithole trumpladia ; the FRAUDULENT claims that there's a big positive resurgence getting started , are MOSTLY TO ALL JUST MORE OF THE SAME WORTHLESS CR-P ; LIES ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ Reinstituting slavery is more like what Shitheads "Inc." have in the pipeline ; good luck with that

If you work in the technical side, but if you work on the management side, you are a HIPO without skills.

Good observation. Big money is quickly fading for MPTs. Still a good trade for the good old boys with education who can work crews in sh1thole locations. Excellent money from their point of view

Good observations, I agree. Unless you're close to the field, your work in this industry is going to get offshored anyway.

Find an area where there's growth or where in-country capability is still valued or advantaged.
