Thread regarding Medtronic Inc. layoffs

New layoff thread

I am starting a new layoff thread. I don’t have much info but the last one had gotten overrun.

So the main thing I am hearing is that overall layoffs will be disproportionately distributed across OU’s. Some will see a haircut, some will see a 25% RIF.

Some of my projects were put on hold. That's not a good sign.

@11x+1jpsqmn64, they can undo remote status, there's nothing preventing it. I had to sign an agreement to go back to the office if it's necessary before I got converted to remote. So far, it's not necessary yet.

MDT stock is dropping like a lead weight. There will be massive layoffs. Thanks Trump Tariffs

To the person who said they can’t undo someone who is classed as remote, that’s not true. I know several people, including myself, who were hired fully remote and are required to go in the office. It’s less than 4 days/wk, but very deceptive hiring practices.

For the people asking about severance etc, there are many posts that explain the process. However, as severance, outplacement (which isn’t very good), cobra, etc., are all at management’s discretion. In the past, medtronic management didn’t like voluntary layoffs. So, I wouldn’t expect voluntary layoffs.
The badge swipe tracking is ridiculous and doesn’t solve any of the problems that medtronic has. What a waste of time. And do they track the badge swipes of the 500 plus VPS? I doubt it.
Sorry to everyone still trying to make and get products to patients. I wish you all well.

Going hard on RTO seems problematic. They didn't have the desk space for it when they cleared out empty desks while back. We haven't bought more space. I have seen them reclaim your desk if you don't badge in enough. Meaning you'll have to book desks and assume there's enough by your team? If not, why stay past the badge swipe.

Plus they can't undo people classed as remote.

Has Sonoma been straightened out yet? If not, I vote a few gsc leaders get walking papers for that mess. Guessing the newish CEVA site is still not where we needed them to be a year ago

@kr+1jpsqmn64 lol blame it on GOSC? Maybe if you actually worked in it, you would understand it’s a lot more than just trying to save money

For what it’s worth, the tools I’ve seen for tracking badge swipes do not take into account holidays/PTO/business travel.

They rolled out a half baked T&E policy on meal costs, so I wouldn’t put it past them to not send out a strongly worded email to someone out of the office on approved bereavement asking why they weren’t physically in the office.

No one should be working from home when we can’t supply product to our customers. Don’t say it’s not your job, if it’s not your job then get the person responsible for these back orders fired or step up. We all should not suffer and get laid off for the incompetence of GOSC. We have families to feed. Hold people accountable, we are not running a charity.

I’ve heard the badge swipes don’t really mean anything yet, but they will in the future. Supposedly RTO will come with written warnings when you don’t hit your quota for days in the office.

@ee+1jpsqmn64 - 100% Correct badge swipes are recorded. You can ask your manager how your flex or onsite stats look via your swipes.
IDK what upper management has in store for people who ignore the rules.

I can confirm. Medtronic is tracking badge swipes. Leaders are looking into whether they will be tracking how long we are staying in the office. My office is a ghost town after lunch time.

They should do voluntary layoffs.

Also, do you guys know how much severance Medtronic gives?

Word I'm hearing is "RIF's are a last resort. But not out of the question in the near future"
Who knows these days in MDT.
Best of luck folks

If it’s too quiet from the higher up and they’re seems closed off then you know something is up. Should we start a walk out?

I don’t have any inside information, but mid-April would surprise me. Last years RIF was after the close of the FY but within the window of actions that could be booked in the prior quarter.

I think that worked out well for them, as they could get the end of year push without wasting those days.

RIFs are disruptive to the productivity of those who survive, easier to absorb that hit at the start of quarter than the end.

I am also hearing rumors and seen dashboards tracking badge swipes…so not sure what is to come of that, but do see some smoke there.

For folks that get RIFed, does MDT offer support like career counseling or a service that reviews resumes, that kind of thing? I know there's severance and so on. How about bonuses?

In past years my sources have been quite reliable. This year they are saying some layoffs, but not as many as one may anticipate in this sinking economy. However, a hard RTO (4-5 days) will be implemented by summer hoping that it causes people to quit, thus avoiding severance payments.
