Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

I’m so fed up with India

Get rid of them all. I’ll take an increase of half their salary if it means I never have to rework what they F up or sit through a zoom meeting with them where nothing is accomplished because nobody understands what they are saying.

I’m starting to develop an unhealthy disdain for Indians. They add nothing

It's a commodity company, y'all.
What's the big deal here?
Have it all run by native texans is preferred - if you like bankruptcy.

Bad engineers are everywhere not just in India. If you hire for wage arbitrage, and don't hire the right talent or pay for it, you will get what you are paying for. Don't blame the whole country. Same in the US. Not every US employee is walking on water either - either technically or commercially.

Moved purchasing to India. Needed a replacement valve plunger and what they received was a toilet plunger. Can't make this up. It took 3 tries before the order was right.

@ed+1jx5kyxcy Nonsense I'm afraid, the decision for HC10 employees is being, and will be, made for them.

Anyone that has an issue with Indian needs to make a decision in where they work. India isn't going anywhere, the company is pot committed to the concept.

half their salary? a couple of years after they started India BSC, an IT manager said Indians cost one-tenth of the US, one-sixth of Europe, a third of Bangkok. now they are probably paid more relatively, maybe half the Bangkok pay. would do your work for a 90% paycut. I'm from HC10 so career prospects are non existent, but I remind myself don't blame the players, blame the game. Our Indian colleagues are just trying their best, just like us.

The greatest engineering feat India has ever had is its scam call centers. Yes, more remarkable than the Taj Mahal.

Long before I ever came to XOM we dealt with India for server farms and server apps. Around 98-99. The entire communication transfer is beyond frustrating but broken at times. I understand the upfront savings, it looks attractive. What the LT for all companies since this started has lost that savings on redos or just not time to market due to the communication break. I’m not saying anyone isn’t smart or lack of aptitude . I know that is there The translation just isn’t there from a help desk to app support. No one is at fault but other than companies thinking they can broaden their margins. Putting a square peg in a round hole is totally inefficient.

@bc I'm waiting to see another scandal like Builder.ai. Other AI companies in India may operated in the same ponzi scheme.

Just look at all the ChatGPT-inspired LinkedIn posts by BTC employees jumping ship for CVX Bangalore. Following is ‘Exhibit A’ from a campus hire that didn’t even spend 2 years at BTC…

“After an incredibly rewarding journey at ExxonMobil the time has come for me to turn the page and begin a new chapter. It’s a bittersweet moment as I bid farewell to an organization that has shaped me both personally and professionally in countless ways.
Joining as a campus hire, I had the privilege of growing within an environment that constantly challenged and inspired me.

Each project brought its own lessons, helping me grow into a more agile, thoughtful, and well-rounded professional.

I am deeply grateful for the opportunities, challenges, and growth I’ve experienced here — and most of all, for the inspiring colleagues and mentors who made this journey truly special. Thank you for the support, collaboration, and memories that I will carry with me always.

Here’s to new beginnings and continued growth!”

India is the "future." They'll get rid of the expensive cogs long before they touch the cheap ones. Yes it'll probably doom the organization eventually but D woods and pals will be long gone and partying at La Quinta by then. If you can't beat em join em! Do the minimum, get paid, and don't stick around long enough to be holding the bag. If you're good you can get hired some place better after you max the 401k for a few years. I'm already on my way out. I'll let the BTC hold that bag for me.

You can replace Indians with AI. That's the only option you can use to break through this situation.
