Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

I will quit

Since RTO, I’m losing at least 8 hours a week commuting. That’s time I used to spend with my family, working out, or literally doing anything but sitting in traffic. It’s draining. And they want to add more to that. No thanks. I'll rather quit. If that's what they want, so be it.

AI will help you start your own thing. Quit working for the man and go on your own. Schwab isn't doing RTO4 because of culture and collaboration. Thats just the BS excuse. They are doing it because shareholders expect you in the office and they spent a gazillion dollars on that shithole facility in Westlake and they can't let it sit empty.

What’s that they say? “This isn’t an airport, no need to announce your departure”

Peace Out. ✌️

Agree. It su-ks that we all have to go back into the office 4 days a week and probably 5 days a week soon. It was great while it lasted.

But seriously. Wake up. Every company is doing this now. EVERY COMPANY. Want to work from home? You'll find out after quitting these WFH jobs are cr-ppy and pay much less.

The whining on this is irrational self-destruction. Reminds me of the proverb: "Cutting off one's nose to spite one's face."

Time to grow up and accept the reality of return to the office of not just Schwab, but pretty much every company out there.

"It's a free market.... Schwab can set their rules and you can choose to stay or leave. Please let us know when you leave.. guessing you won't and just like to complain."

It's only a free market in the sense that every business owner is free to bend the American worker over the desk and give it to them raw. Every single major corporation in the country is racing to see which one can plunder what remains of the American middle class quicker than the others. Don't worry Mr. Crab in the bucket, we're going to cook with you because we have no choice! If we go to a competitor, the same thing is going to happen. It's always funny to hear this continued tough guy act like you aren't getting railed like the rest of us, you super special hard working bright star you!

@ea Schwab may be among the most flexible in the industry but as someone who didn't come feom financial services, there are MANY other fields with significantly better work/life balance.

@OP quit! I quit when the initial RTO rules came out because I’d moved away from the office during COVID (and was assured over and over that wouldn’t be an issue). I’m full time WFH for another firm now and it’s been the best decision ever.

@ac Not a boomer. Born in 1967 so Gen X. An embarrassment to my generation.

@a9 And that makes it alright to commute? Hey buddy, times have changed. Any computer job (other than hardware) have no need to be in an office anymore. Schwab has that fake f**king thing every year for Maricopa County about alternatives to driving your own car so we can keep pollution down. Hey Schwab, telecommuting cuts WAY down on pollution.
Also, Schwab is big on accepting change when the change is in their favor.
Go back to your office! When no one wants to work for this place anymore, I hope you're ready to commit 100 hours per week.

It's a free market.... Schwab can set their rules and you can choose to stay or leave. Please let us know when you leave.. guessing you won't and just like to complain.

Reality is Schwab is a follower on RTO policy, not a leader. Tech companies and those you'd think we're more flexible were actually the leaders in RTO5. Your options ar dwindling.

Overall I find those complaining about 3 days in the office are not the high performers. Most graduated college after the pandemic started and believe they are somehow winning at life working 30 hours a week.

Reality check.. Schwab has some of the best work life balance and flexibility out there. Sick time remote weeks etc. the jokes on you new college grads not pushing hard to learn and deliver young in your career while you have the time thirst and lack of other responsibilities. Your not setting up your career and will likely struggle outside of Schwab. Get with it and put in the work to build the base of your career.

The RTO FAQs that the EC released make it very clear they accept attrition. Office culture is more important than skilled staff currently in seat.

The youngest baby boomer is now 61 years old and yet none of them have retired. Here they are still trying to tell us what do to and talking mess about all other younger generations. Time for Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z to unite and say enough is enough. Stop the cycle they are trying to keep alive of talking bad about the next generation and not being open to doing things a new way

Late boomer here. Scr$) the commute. I hated it. Won’t do it again. It’s not all boomers who did this. It’s also the fact that we didn’t have a dang choice. I’ve been remote since 2018. Won’t go back. This precious time we will never get back.
So stop using Boomers for all the blame. We also lived through the gas wars and 20-% mortgages. There are a--hats in every generation and the millennials and your generation got scre()d as well. It’s a leadership and economic policy fiasco, along with the haves and haves not.
And we are still paying for it.
And people are living longer. Raise the cap on Social Security and it won’t be unfunded. Let the rich pay their share.
And yeah, there are some pretty stupid older boomers. But those of us on the tail end are more in your camp.

Younger Gen X here. I'm cracking up at all of the boomers posting on here talking all work-tough like they've done so much in their time and should be the model for work ethic and family dynamics.

Reality: The boomer generation sold out the entire country and sacrificed precious time with their own families without blinking an eye--only to have nothing to show for it except pilfering from the social security tax that I'm paying each month (more than any boomer has ever paid). Your entire generation thinks it's everyone else's duty to carry you through retirement after you failed to plan well and also sc--wed up your children with cr-ppy parenting which was an overreaction to what you perceived as cr-ppy parenting from your parents. You love to talk down about the "entitled" newer generations, but are the epitome of entitlement if there ever has been one.

Well done! I'm sure when you're on your death bed you'll be super thankful for the extra time that you spent in your commute and the long hours you worked instead of being present for the people in your lives.

@a8 how do you know or say until March? They gonna try 4-5 days/week after then in 2026????

@an That’s such a lame argument “everyone commuted before” - and we used paper maps, rotary phones, and fax machines. Covid forced innovation and as a result employee productivity and engagement went through the roof. New studies that state otherwise I argue are due to the current bias against remote work from corporate leaders who want to control employees, not lead them.

@a9 I hate this old man attitude that the world should su-k and we can't make it better because it su-ked when you were young. Just go ahead die already so the mess you made can be fixed. We know how but the elderly and the obscenely rich are holding us back.

@OP wah wah wah - did you commute before the v$d to this job? The rules of the workforce are changing again - go ahead and see if you can find a remote job - many don't exist anymore. Pull up your pants and act like a big boy

Totally understand. I also add 6 hours to my commute with being in the office each week and it’s so frustrating because no one on my direct team or direct leadership is in my office. But this is happening so I guess you have until March to find another role. I think that is a feature of the announcement and not a bug.
