Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Popcorn Ready...

The kids say “get your popcorn ready” and I did these past few weeks.

I’m 2 years away from retirement, worked in multiple sectors/BUs, and outside of PepsiCo as well. I've mistakenly chased money and it cost me. In the end, I've learned to be content with what I have. Do better than me.

The fear of the unknown can hold you hostage.

The apprehension of layoffs is holding so many of you hostage. I have empathy for you but would encourage you to think about how you might impact others for the better rather than dwelling on what you can’t control and spreading that fear.

There is a freedom in acknowledging you don’t have control yet knowing you can still help others.

For my fellow popcorn eaters, here is the last two weeks…

Rescinding of frontline job offers

  • Accurate; Planned actions for a while, recent notifications were simply unfortunate

Why is anybody still at PepsiCo?

  • Fear mongering
  • The 2nd response to that post was correct

Staffing Reduction Strategy

  • Fear mongering again
  • Copied and pasted from a previous post

Leaders of PepsiCo - S and T and support group

  • S&T team does have that reputation, but the call out comes across as a personal vendetta.
  • You are not going to fix the problem by posting here. (I have empathy for you, but get away from the victim mentality)
  • Yes, thes Global Design teams working on the trading cards you requested

No email to stay at home was sent out - just rumor?

  • Correct. While that’s good news, still wish I got to work from home.
  • “…my reliable SVP connection in Finance…” – more fear mongering.
  • “Steven Williams” comment is unnecessary and from someone just trying to cause dissention

Ramon being called out by the Press

  • Another person trying to cause dissention

Super Bowl dud!

  • While we should be concerned with the extreme spending on Super Bowl, the post is poorly informed and pushing a personal agenda over facts
  • The comments which ensued after this were sadly ignorant

Finally, DEI is Downsizing or Going Away at PepsiCo!!! Let's Celebrate!!

  • Hate mongering
  • If you are not supportive of DEI, that’s fine, but at least educate yourself on the subject and present a reasonable case position

Bonus Payout Rules

  • Simple, work until December 31st and you get your full bonus, good luck.

Return to office Full Time??

  • Not announced, but you definitely got people up in arms.
  • The response “Jamie Dimon gets it” was brilliant.
  • Staffing Reduction Strategy post was stolen from here.

Stay Home Email this Weekend

  • Not announced, but you certainly caused a kerfuffle with that comment.

Millions Spent on SB ads, Layoffs Next

  • The suggested numbers on the spend per AD is wrong
  • Personal comments about Maria and Ramon are not appropriate
  • The response about holistic spend on SB was very insightful. (I’d have a guess and say you are in Finance?) Mind boggling to think of it that way

LHH Career Services

  • It’s a severance service to help with the journey to work somewhere else (Standard procedure)
  • General consensus was that LHH was helpful

Layoffs Coming Next Week

  • Fear mongering again

Layoff funding almost doubled in most recent 10k

  • Appears that not everyone understands what a 10k is…
  • A 10k is a comprehensive financial report for publicly traded companies with legally required disclosures.
  • 10k reports change over time because they change with performance
  • The company the 10k from PepsiCo’s perspective
  • The poster is reading too much into the funding changes and isn’t factoring planned expansions, acquisitions, and clearly doesn’t have that high of a level of visibility to the PepsiCo’s real financials.

Any insight into how many people accepted the VRP?

  • Great question but you will never find that out.

Layoffs season ahead of us

  • More fear mongering

Look at your Environment and Leaders

  • Accurate or not, the insight to Ramon’s salary is fun
  • Speculation that Maria Laguarta’s (Ramon’s wife) is on the payroll seems off. That would be a very public case of nepotism and possibly a conflict of interest.
  • I personally don’t have an issue with her traveling with him and that probably keeps him out of trouble!

Anyone know about HQs or Corporate Affairs function?

  • Good luck getting that answer.

All that popcorn is making me thirsty for a soda!

Disclosure list shows those that are eligible. It does not show who accepted. For privacy reason I don’t want everyone to know I’m leaving. I received the list one time in December and no updated one came later.

Those who were offered/accepted the VRP have a document called the PepsiCo Disclosure List and it shows by location the title, location and age of how many eligible employees were participating in the program and how many accepted it. It’s 25 pages long.

BTW the 10k comments made several days ago are very accurate…. See note 3 of the financial statements. 55% of billions added in productivity to be used for severance specifically called out.

@bt+1jmbb8fvn Indeed. This post had a bizarrely huge number of upvotes within minutes of posting. Definitely something fishy going on.

So you think they are going to hire a pr firm to make comments on this low traffic site. That makes total sense.

OP seems like he was hired by PepsiCo to spread disinformation right before the email went out. There are also a disproportionate number of likes /dislikes on this post that don’t correspond to the sentiment overall on this site. Wondering if a PR firm hired by us to manage this site.

@bt+1jmbb8fvn - This is incorrect. I reviewed and re-reviewed my VRP package and it told us how many people were offered the VRP, but there was no corresponding number of how many accepted it.

Thanks for the recap it was inaccurate and condescending at best!!

So the stay at home letter, and the layoffs currently happening were fear mongering and causing a stir. Um, ok. Finely crafted, inaccurate post.

In the time it took this LG executive to craft this long (and clearly incorrect) email they could have turned the company around LOLOL. Seriously this email took a very long time to put together and no wonder we are in trouble.

Lots of our execs kids, spouses, other family members work for us, even our multiple former CEO’s’ kids still work for us. Nepo babies are a part of our Pepsi culture.

Simple to see how you survived at PepsiCo. Your response is full of half truths and some outright lies.

Almost a professionally written post or written by an LG+ that really loves the company and has lots of time on their hands. Left out where we are actively pushing jobs to Mexico and working to automate. It is in the current financial plan to move many roles and eliminate US based jobs that are more costly. Will significantly impact headcount.

This was a good post. Thanks for sharing although there is information about how many people actually took the VRP. Ask any one who has accepted it. The company sent them a report on how many people were eligible and how many of them accepted it. From what I’ve been told, this was a low number of people who accepted the VRP compared to the many who were offered it.
